I have a Seastar Power Assist with Integrated Autopilot that has failed. The AP pump runs great, but the main pump runs continuously and no longer provides any power assist. I have bled the system thoroughly. No leaks, etc.... Can it be rebuilt? (rather than a new $2000+ unit?).

You can most likely have it rebuilt. I had my autopilot pump go bad. I took it to a pool pump repair shop. They had it fixed in one day for 150 bucks. A new one would have been 900 bucks. Bring it to a pump and motor shop and show it to them.

I contacted Sea Star by email and gave them my symptoms. They sent me a service bulletin for a plastic coupler that goes between the motor shaft and the main pump.
Very simple, two screws and the motor came off and sure enough, the plastic coupler was broken. I replied to them saying what I had found and they are sending me a new part plus a spare for the future. Very good customer service so far.
