Luhrs what a joke. I worked for a company that built the first 50 ftr which went to Charlie and they had problems with the 36 because of the saucer in the forefoot. Luhrs had no clue why the hull would not get on plane and it was as obvious as was the shines turning inward at the transom. The old man I worked for sold Luhrs a set of line and they took it back to ST. Aug. and came back about a month later and that damn kid had drawn the frig. 3 feet outside of the hull. Took no consideration for the flair and flam in the topsides. The old man threw this kid out of his shop. Was a damn funny day. I think the best part is that when we move the company to a building in St. Aug. Luhrs moved their R&D right next door to our shop, same building just a fence seperating. They went through more bondo than I had ever seen...Design ha what a joke.

Just the fact they have such a bad reputation, justified or not, should scare you off. You know what it'll be like selling it? You'll sell it for the scrap value of the engines and gear on it. The real cost of a boat is the purchase price minus the selling price. On one of these, it'll be about 100% of the purchase price.
Buying a boat with such a bad reputation means you subscribe to the theory that there's an ass for every seat. The corollary to that theory is that there's a bigger ass to take his place when he vacates it.
IMHO

I have a Luhrs 41 and love it, have not had the problems alluded to on this thread. If you like the boat then go fo it. It's a great boat!

Interesting response to this thread. I don't have a dog in this fight so I'm wondering if the gripes in this thread are real or hysterical responses. It seems an owner like you would know if the boats a piece of crap or a great boat as you state. Is it possible you just don't use it in a way where you would see the problems? How can your reaction be so different?
Just wondering. I have looked at the Luhrs 41 and thought it looked great and seemed to be a good buy, but wouldn't consider it after reading this thread.

Keep in mind the bad hulls are hull 101-139. There have been a lot of 41s bulit since then and they ride and perform like night and day compared to the first hull. There are 100 or so 41s out there that do not share the same issues as the 1st generation boats. This guy may not have one of the early hulls and may just be like many other owners that are happy with their boat.

Thanks for the answer. That starts to make sense to an outsider like me.

Wow, this thread has some tough folks contributing. I was called stupid and crazy for considering a Luhrs boat! I even had some recent experience in that I sea trialed a 41 convertible and fished numerous times on a friend's 41 open (by the way he really likes it). While I appreciate the comments from the two owners and the Luhrs alum, the rest were not helpful. Seems these folks just love bashing and BSing.

So Wiley, I agree with the other guy. This thread needs to be shut down. It serves no purpose at this point to be informative to a prospective Luhrs purchaser. Too much emotion and bashing for me. I don't think I will be back to this thread.....................

WOW, what happened did Luhrs tell you all to hush up? They have really messed up! I hear they moving Luhrs out of St. Augustine is that true?????? I hear many men and women talk about how much they lost on their share of the company. Damn shame spent their life's building boats and was good at it and then let the good ones go and they go down hill. So if any of you are planing on moving with Luhrs to Hunter Watch your backs cause once your there they will sent you packing. Don't believe what they give you cause in 6 months you will be gone!!

No Hush here!!!!!!
My boat is back in NJ. Luhrs is still working on my boat the list is getting smaller at times and sometimes it grows. but it seams there is just a lack of getting it done. I am running out of patience for everytime they touch somthing they screw somthing else up.

It was funny, while I was in the Keys I saw a 41 Luhrs down the canal. It was obviously a factory boat as it was home ported out of St. Augustine. I was caled "Luhred Away" or something similiar. From the looks of the house, someone made some big money. Since they took it out fishing several times I am sure they have the upgraded model.
