I read somewhere that the Marshalls can be involved in certain forclosure/repossesion activities.

Luhrs advertising here in the Great Lakes pretty heavily lately. The first thing I think of is buyer beware when I see the ads.

Yep, and a lot of other issues, so the only thing that can be concluded is something is going on that includes some form of government and some sort of "legal" issue or proceeding; that's it. Anything more would be an assumption.

Maybe this is the reason for the Marshalls sticker. This is a federal action: http://dockets.justia.com/docket/cou...ase_id-210630/

And, no, I do not have any inside knowledge about what this is all about. I just did a simple google search and came up with this. I am not willing to pay the fee to see the documents. Maybe either of the parties will come here and give some details?

In a time of turn down all recreation takes a hit. Didn't Sea Ray just lay off 300 employees and cut production? I don't think it was moving to St. Augustine that may have slowed orders from dealers. If boats arent selling, dealers cant continue to take them. Do you really think a dealer wants to continue to bloat their floor plan if boats arent selling? Who do you think is paying for those boats while they bob around at the dock? ROFs and cuts in production are a product of a crippled economy. I'm not saying that the negative publicity hasn't had an effect, but its not the only reason for people not having jobs in manufacturing right now.

As for the signs...I don't know why or what they are there for. I just know they are. I also know Marshalls don't just show up, take possession of your boat, and not allow anyone to board, because you have been an upstanding citizen. Didn't he own his dealer some money or a title for his trade in? Did that ever get taken care of? Hell, for all I know he cant afford it anymore and its being repossessed. I'm still curious as to how the last inspection went, but he doesn't seem to be around to continue the story that he started. I'm sure it has something to do with Luhrs not fixing his issues fast enough. Hell, they might just come and sticker all of our boats just for reading this.

That's what it looks like! I read somewhere on this tread the boat he traded in was in his ex-wife name maybe I'm wrong but I know there was something wrong with the title! Either way Luhrs screwed him over on this boat and has spent so much money trying to make them fix it. Lets hope Mr. Sunshine can get it done. I would love to see Luhrs crash and burn!! (not in the way some may take) Just ran into the ground is all!!!!

What a saga! New to the site, I have been working on this thread for hours- finally had to cut the cord and Fast Forward to the last 4 pages. I was interested cause I owned a 1996 29 Open a few years back. I liked the simplicity and ease of maintenance with it. I had very few issues with it- the main one being opting for the wrong engines, non-Luhrs related, but it was a good solid boat. I thought about buying a new 36 before I bought my last new boat 6 months ago but didn't. With the way things are shaping up now i am not sorry that I went in a different direction. The dealer that I purchased from previously said that the dealership had dropped Luhrs because they were slow to respond to warranty claims. I hate to see any American company go belly up but as in any product you have to back what you build to maintain continued success.

The management at Luhrs is the whole blame. The company was very saveable before they brought back this Roger Yarlborough caracter. Most the trouble started when they started moving management around and put Jim Krueger in charge. Most of you know him by the phrase "get a life". The 41 with the marshal tags was bought back from the owner before the marshal tags went on. There is no longer any difference between Mainship and Luhrs. All the Mainship guys are gone. All of them. So now beware of Mainship also because it is now a Luhrs with a different name. Shame on John and Warren Luhrs for letting this happen after all there hard work to bring it back from there dad.

This thread seems to have died. Does anyone know what happened? Are the boats fixed correctly? Did they fix all of the 39 hulls. Has my Sanity gotten his boat back? I have been around boats for quite some time and it seems like all that has happened is alot of quick fixes.
I know someone who worked there for about 20 years and they got rid of him. And he was good at what he did.

Looks to me like their silence has been bought. So I guess the price was right and they are happy!

I would imagine they were paid for their silence in an effort to stop the bleeding.

wow all 68 pages my eyes are killing me. So 41 Lurhrs did not pay the dealer. How interesting. I am glad I did read this because of all the info truth and fiction alike. Makes me a better seller and or purchaser. I think this should be a primer for any new boat owner.

*** Update on my boat ***

I have not settled anything with Luhrs. I have just grown tired of the entire saga. When my boat was returned from Luhrs in January, I immediately listed it with South Florida Yachts, the local Luhrs dealership. Around the middle of April I signed a contract for $ 320,000.00 from a buyer in Connecticut. I agreed on the price and waited for survey, financing, etc from the buyer. All I want to say regarding the survey is -- There were some things that made the buyer uncomfortable . The boat ended up closing --- I guess a boat that size for $ 320,000.00 with so many options is worth the risks or headaches. He was aware of the boats "reputation". He might even read THT

We have amended the complaint against Luhrs and I will wait as long as it takes for the court date to arrive --My attorney thinks it will be next spring. There has been no response from Luhrs since the closing -- but it will be coming.

I received a call today from the new buyer -- he made the trip back from Florida. He is keeping the boat near the Rhode Island state line. He did mention to me that the boat "turned to its side --once the trim tabs were applied" I was only in the boat for approximately 20 minutes in the ICW since the boat was returned from Luhrs in what they described as "completely corrected". I did have the boat surveyed upon return and Dane Flemming, my surveyor , stated the ride issues were not corrected. Luhrs has said that Mr. Flemming had no basis for his statement.

I hope the new owner never has the nightmare that I had with that boat -- Luhrs said it is completely fine now --- I obviously disagree. As far as Rick (Luhrs 41) The last I heard -- he was awaiting the return of his vessel before June. I hope his boat is correct now.

I would never recommend ANYTHING built by the Luhrs Marine Group for the rest of my life -- On a positive note -- My Ocean was out of warranty in September 07. I noticed last week that I had some spider cracks in about 6 spots that looked like they came from "popping " the boat out of the mold The repair estimate was $ 1,800.00. I called Vernon at Ocean and later that day -- he said they will be covering it 100%. This is the way a company stands behind its product.

Thanks for the update. I am shocked that anyone would buy that boat at any price given the history. This whole situation is a case study in what not to do. It saddens me to see how stupid they have acted. I love my boat and it has held up extremely well but it is not a 41.
Good luck!

Thanks for the update Sunshine. WOW $320K is less than you see the asking price for them out here on the left coast. What Ocean did you get?? Been on and worked on a couple and they seem like nice boats. Sincerly hope you will enjoy yours for years to come. You deserve that!!

Sunshine-

What size Ocean and what year. The people at Ocean are pretty good to work with. I spoke with Vernon's son today. Very family oriented company. I have a 40SS and have been pretty happy with it so far. Good luck.

50 super sport --I love the boat -- I put about 350 hours on it in the last 12 months with very minimal problems. I plan on keeping this one a long time.
