Google Luhrs.
Dynamic Instability?
Potential for fire? Twice?

Someone did not do their homework here.
I just did in 5 min.
Maybe those things you have found were a result of these Lurhs owners?

When myself and the other 41 owners purchased the boats information was not out regarding these boats. You can get the information now in 5 minutes because of our efforts. Why do you think it took Luhrs 2 1/2 years to issue a recall (which does not work). They new about this problem before they sold these boats to the public.

My case is in the court system. I have not posted because I have very little news. Luhrs has made no effort to correct my situation since my fire on the sea trial. They have made a motion to dismiss my case based on the fact I have filed suit against Luhrs. They claim I should file against Northside Marine Sales (now out of business) because they are the people that sold me the boat. I have a hearing in October regarding the claim. I will continue this fight this as long as it takes to get my day in court.

I have copied a E-mail I received last week from Raymond Rose with Boat US Consumer Protection Bureau. He has contacted Luhrs regarding my case and "Luhrs 41" boats. As you see Ralph has had this BS recall done on his boat as well. This company is full of lies and the recall is just another. I was on my boat last week with another Naval Architect. One of the test we preformed was to get the boat moving on a straight course. He then asked me to take my hands off the wheel. The boat begins to turn left hard -- The boat will circle and continue in a circle. If we were out in the water now ---it would still be doing circles.

Dear Mr. Knighten,

Below you will find a complaint from a BoatUS member who is also a Luhrs
customer. This message is in regards to our earlier communication regarding
the Luhrs 41 issues. What can you tell me about the repairs and why they
are, according to Mr. Camputaro, not working? What is Luhrs doing in regards
to these situations?

Please reply when you get a chance.

Sincerely,

Raymond M. Rose

Did you really need a Naval Architect to verify it goes in circles, heck a cold beer and I'd go for a ride and tell ya that.... Nice autopilot could take that right out.

Mike you're a very smart guy. An autopilot would correct the turning issue..... by putting the rudders into a slight but constant turn in the opposite direction, eh?

That would sure cure the problem but what about all that extra fuel you'd be burning by not having your rudders in a neutral position while making a straight course.

Yep, dammed clever solution you've offered up.

Just finished reading this whole thread. Where is my T-shirt?? :D I wouldn't buy 41's boat because of the color alone.

Seriously though I give big kudos to sunshine and 41 for taking Luhrs to task and wish them the best of outcomes. I have not owned a Luhrs but a few buddies have had a 29, both early 90's models IIRC. While not the major defective hull design like the 41s enough poor quality issues (like leaking fuel tanks) to turn my off from ever buying one. Still have a soft spot in my heart for the late 60's 32 footers.

What leaking fuel tank? The recall involves ripping up the deck of a brand new boat?

Luhrs 41 is the perfect example of the inexperienced buyer who buys by size, he could have got a nice quality 38 boat for the same price, but of course as we all know size is all important. Luhrs 41 probably traded the ex-wife for his secretary ( Candy Plastik ) with the big bolt-ons and this is where the problems started.
I've owened (sic) lots of boats and fished them hard, Luhrs 41 boat looks like a boat that has been fished hard and put away wet with no maintenance. Luhrs 41 seems like so many boat owners I have known that have enough money to buy a boat but not to maintain it correctly.

Luhrs 41 be honest, you can not afford the boat and now you are try to force the builder to bail you out.

Feedback,

As one of the many interested bystandaers in this thread, I have to say your comments either signify that:

1. You are missing the point

2. You are a Luhrs owner who is trying to defend what equity you have left in you boat.

3. Your post was satirical or facetious.

Unless you are #3, pray tell us what kind of maintenance does one do to stop a boat from listing and self-steering to port? Maybe a little extra bottom paint on that side?

Joenew61,

Looks like I hit a sore spot, huh !!!

Buyer's remorse can be a ugly thing.

By the way I have a very nice 45 Viking that we are just heading home on as write the reply, had a good day of fishing, when I get back the crew will clean the boat and fill the tanks for next weekend. What people like you and Luhrs 41 don't want to understand is that boats need lots upkeep even new ones. The upkeep on my boat is more than the cost of the boat but I understood that when I bought the boat.

As for the sea keeping abilities of the Luhrs, all hull designs are a compromise. My Viking can be wet under the right conditions and if I try hard enough I can stuff the bow in a following sea.

The problem I have with people like Luhrs 41 is that, all indications are that he bought more boat than he could afford, and by his posted pictures failed to maintain the boat and now is trying to pressure the builder to bail him out of his bad decision.

We see this all the time in my business, construction.

Mike,

OK, got it. Sorry.

However, in view of all the lame ass responses on this thread I'm not kicking myself too hard for missing the irony in your comment.

Things in LA (Lower Alabama) are pretty slow and laid back all of the time. Add in the heat wave we've been having and it's REALLY slow around here. Even canceled a fishing trip for last Friday. That put me in a really good mood. :=)
