In a letter from luhrs

(In resolution of the problems noted by Mr. Mawker Luhrs will agree to repair the items outlined in the bullet points some of which would be covered under warranty others that we will do as goodwill. In order to accomplish these repairs we will bring the vessel back to the factory where we can control the quality of the work being done. This will be done at Luhrs expense. Upon completion of the repairs we will fly Mr. Mawker to the factory to review the repairs and upon sign off will return the boat to his marina at Luhrs expense.)

So i have to lose another season of boating ??

They have not rembursed me from the last time they took my boat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buy boat, make payments, not use it cause luhrs is using it for R&D what the F

There is a book called the E-Myth and it is mostly about business practices. They tell an interesting story about a private jet manufacturer (cannot remember this MAJOR name right now for the life of me). One plane early in the companies life went down and they could not rule out malfunction. They only way to find out was to re-create the problem in the air (kind of dangerous). The owner himself went up in the air, re-created the problem and luckily landed the plane. When he found out that it was their fault, he recalled every plane they ever made, they almost went out of business. They survived on principles and is now one of the most infamous planes built. Great story about business survival. Owning a 1998 36' Luhrs, I hope the Luhrs managment picks up a copy of this book about business survival.......

Personally I always wondered why someone would spend that level of $$$$ on a Luhr product anyway, lets be honest, if you are going to own a 40+' boat, I want a real boat name on it!

hineser - 6/14/2007 1:26 PM Obviously Luhrs didn't do enough R&D on this boat before they started building and selling it. It is 100% their fault and if they were a decent company, they would have been all over this problem from the get go. Plain and simple, anyone can see that. What gets me with this, it's not like he bought a $500 lawn mower that broke under warranty and can't get the company to make good. This is a $700,000 brand new yacht that is faulty. If it we're me, I'd be doing the same thing this guy is doing. Somebody should get a pool going on when Luhrs will be out of business. Another thing is Luhrs is dealing with people who have the resources to hire lawyers and hammer this thing home. I say 1.5 years they'll be history.
They will be out of business soon.

These kind ofproblems just don't go away unless taken care of right away. They will just give you a bad name in the industry.

I also feel sorry for the guy that buys a new or used41 and reads this post after the fact.

41 Luhrs, let me ask you, what made you decide to buy a brand new 41 Luhrs? I'm sure you took a demo ride, I'm guessing you liked the ride and the fit and finish as you were signing over a rather large sum of money no??

I'm personnally not a fan of the product, but I've seen efforts to improve the quality (like most companies as well, including Ocean), I would guess with them taking it back to the factory they will make the boat the same as the one you demo'ed and obviously liked, in the mean time, take out the golf clubs and work on your game, certainly time better spent then this 30+ page saga that was written. Truly wish you a satifactory resolution.

41 Luhrs, I was reading in the Jan 07 ESPN mag about a nascar driver owning two luhrs, maybe you should check it out and send some info his way. "Biffle currently spends a lot of his free time fishing aboard his two Luhrs sportfishers – a 41 Convertible and 30 Open."

The reason i bought a new 41 luhrsI liked the way it looked inside and out the color plus the steps to the bridge made it easy for my young kids ages 5 & 8to accessthe bridge to sit with me on our weekend trips. I did take a 30 min demo ride in the St Johns river in Fla it was raining and the water was flat as a duck pond so i had know idea that she would handle so badly in 2-3 foot waves. The next boatthat ibuy i will do a lot more home work like speaking to owners and checking my new boat out online like the hull truth and other web sites for more information. The problem with my 41 luhrs it was a new boat in production and not much information was available at that time March of 2006 Today there is a lot of information on the 41 Luhrs and i would not have purchased herI would of looked into somthing else.

Thanks Rick M

Luhrs is sounding sillier by the minute.

I am curious as to the position that the "heeling" only affects #1 - 40. What makes hull #41 and above different from < 41? Was their a redesign? If there was, why was it redesigned?

Yes they did redesign the hull from #41 and up. As per a phone callI made toLUHRS yesterdayI asked Roger Yarborough V.P. Operations Luhrs Corporation why the hull change? He told me that the new hull rides bow down and poundsa little more to correct the ride issue in their safety recall. To me all the hulls 1 thru 40 should get these new hulls so we dont have this problem because the modifacations that were done to my boat and sevral other owners boats by LUHRS does not correct the problem at all it just makes the boat go slower in turn witch minnimizes the chance for the rudders to cavate and lose steering and did not correct the dynamic instability problem as stated by my naval architects reportof the sea trial he performedon June 3 2007.

Interesting that it's a forum for luhrs and yet problems, such as yours can't be discussed there.
I've read all of this thread and wish you best of luck in getting resolution to your problem.

I couldn't agree more. Apparently 41 Luhrs didn't do his homework before buying his Luhrs. Now he's stuck with a boat that's been the subject of an ongoing THT discussion...can't imagine what the dollar value of that 41 is now or any other Luhrs for that matter. He needs to work with Luhrs not against them to solve this problem.

I don't have a dog in this fight but........seems to me this guy has tried to do the right thing but the company still to this day refuses to admit a problem (liability=?) but will try to fix the non-existant problem which they did alter in hulls after #41. Now they invite him back to an owners forum but he can not talk about "the" problem but he can say nice things to make others buy Luhrs. WOW!!

I am a bit flabergasted that 41 luhrs boat a 41 foot yacht because he "Liked the color" and the "stairs" to the bridge for his kids....
and sea trialed it on a completely flat day................to be honest here I boat a 22 ft angler w/around after reading some negative reports about them by
a minority ....so I sea trialed it on a 3 ft choppy day and also went over the electric system/wiring/thru hulls/bilge/fish boxes/cabin/
tested the hydrolic steering/and loaded it up with 3 of my fat friends........after all of that I like the boat ..the ride..and was satisfied that
it was the right match for me. 3 years later I am more than happy with it...no probs and just what I expected. I hate to say it 41...but
even if luhrs bears the responsibility to fix legitimate issues..you also bear some responsibility for not researching and testing your purchase.

When I was looking to by my Luhrs 38 Open (first owner of a 2004 boat in 2006), one of my conditions before I would commit to the deal was a sea trial on a snotty day. We were able to get a day with 20 - 25 knots of wind in February and took the boat out. It performed well and we talked turkey.

Over a year later, I'm still satisfied with the boat, and am (almost) done with getting all of the bugs worked out with my dealer.

Every experience is a little different.

I still don't understand the negative remarks towards '41. He bought what he felt was a boat that fit his needs. He bought from a reputable (at the time) company. Not a top tier vessel, but a chunk of change to say the least. He has what appears to be very substaniated claims ( nalve arch., others with similiar issues, a recall from the maker). He wants to be made whole again. His responses from Luhrs have not met his expectations. This is a $700k vessel. "41, I feel your pain, but can offer no help except my understanding

The owners site is worse then Luhrs and their boats. Most owners sites welcome information if it can help their owners avoid problems or help get them fixed. I guess their afraid the more people know about the issues with their boat the more their boat values plummet. Join Luhrs and try to sweep it under the rug.

The owners site is also supposed to be an enjoyable place where owners can chat about their boats. There has to be some degree of censorship to preserve the peace on sites like that. I'm not sure if the site is privately owned or owned by Luhrs, but if it turns into a collection of negativity about the boat Luhrs is going to pull the plug or put pressure on the site owner to pull the plug, which would ruin it for all the other Luhrs owners. So while I feel horrible for the way Luhrs 41 is being treated, I can certainly understand why this kind of stuff needs to stay off a brand-specific forum. If Luhrs could handle this whole thing a little better then the members of that site would be able to talk about it more productively. But with this mess..... no way I would let it anywhere near that site.
