I talked to Rick right after the sea trial. The boat ran on its side as is always the case -- Luhrs told him they will be in touch by Friday. He said he will post after the report is delivered to him. The sea trial was on Friday -- conditions were flat as a lake. He has some video that will be posted as well.

More B S from luhrs you all should get a kick out of this click on link i have provided. If there is no problem with the 41's why are they spending all this time and money trying to fix a boat that has nothing wrong with it.

This is truly unbelievable from a manufacturer. LUHRS states that they cannot get this heeling situation to take place but they ARE going to spend a lot of money to fix a non-existant problem. Hey LUHRS why fix it if it ain't broke? Without even seeing the problem boat I can read the writing on the wall - pos boat!

Wow,,,,,funny, I figured Roger from Polar would have fixed you right up. They took such good care of me.

I feel bad for you. At least with my Polar I can still use it.

I know you don't want to hear this...But, as I read LUhrs press release it looks to me that they are doing the right thing. It's obvious that they're dealing with 40 hulls that need fixing and Luhrs realizes this. They also have to deal with keeping Luhrs afloat as a company. I give them credit for approaching this problem in a methodical businesslike manner. Just because they don't "bow" to your every wish and demand doesn't mean they're not willing to solve this problem.

Yes, I've read most all 29 pages.

Obviously Luhrs didn't do enough R&D on this boat before they started building and selling it. It is 100% their fault and if they were a decent company, they would have been all over this problem from the get go. Plain and simple, anyone can see that.

What gets me with this, it's not like he bought a $500 lawn mower that broke under warranty and can't get the company to make good.

This is a $700,000 brand new yacht that is faulty. If it we're me, I'd be doing the same thing this guy is doing.

Somebody should get a pool going on when Luhrs will be out of business.

Another thing is Luhrs is dealing with people who have the resources to hire lawyers and hammer this thing home.

I say 1.5 years they'll be history.

Luhrs is being terribly short sighted on this. The more stalling they do the more damage thay are doing to their brand day by day. Their reputation may be irretrievably damaged at this point. We are talking 700,000 dollar boats here. They should have started to make people whole from day one in every way they could. Hiring more people to field the calls and make solutions happen for the customers would have led to good will that would have ensured they're future success. Now they've probably got years of lawsuits, settlements and negative consumer perceptions ahead of them that will not go away. Great forward looking strategy guys!

for luhrs to do that they would need the capitol resources available to fix these problems. 40 boats x 700 k is 28 million dollars. Thats alot of scratch to come up with.

That's exectly right - they may be having finaincial difficulty. What are they going to do, come out and say "well, we really don't have the money to make all of these repairs so we are going to make it a little more difficult and deny accountability whenever possible". You never know what's going on behind the scenes. They could be looking at their balance sheet, sweating it out every day (of course, this is the last thing they want the general public to think).

I don't think that anyone is asking them to buy back all the boats. The only thing that people are asking is that they fix the problem correctly the first time in a resonable amount of time. I make my living in the marine industry and stuff like this makes me sick. People coming to the defense of a company that cleary is not making their customers satisfied. It's not an issue of whether or not the boat is perfect, NONE of them are. The issue is they won't step up and fix the problems. That's all the 41 owners are asking for, nothing more, nothing less. It's gone this far because they haven't taken care of the customer.

I am currently doing large warranty jobs for a large boat builder. You don't hear their customers complaining do you? Why you ask? The company has done everything they can to take care of the customers. Is anyone happy with it, NO. Not the customer, not the company.

The moral of the story, a customer buys a boat, customer has problems with boat, company steps up and fixes boat correctly, company ends up keeping customer happy, problems quite and sells more boats because of it. I'd actually buy one of these when I wouldn't have before I saw how the company handles the problems. This company has actually taken what could be a huge problem and made it a positive by doing the right thing.

What Luhrs is doing is sad. It will hurt them long term, it is a big dollar lump for the owners, and like it or not people, this is the kind of thing which has people leaving boating which is bad for all of us.

Sorry for the rant.

Got my July edition of Boating in the mail yesterday. In the back is a full page ad placed by JYS and one of the boats featured is the 41' Luhrs. I guess they are hoping to find someone with $700k that hasn't read this thread yet.

It does look like luhrs is trying to find a fix. I will bet these hulls have a "hook" in them either from a bad mold or they were pulled too soon or when assembled they were not supported correctly. Luhrs is trying to correct a design/manufacturing flaw. Not a good place to be for luhrs or the owner.
Bertram has had some bad designs a few years back. They bought them back and cut them up.

I worked at Luhrs for a very short time in the summer of '94. From what I saw come out of the molds into the patching department was a shame. The designs were beautiful but the quality was poor. Most of the boats being built at that time were already sold to customers and were put out so fast that corners were cut. We were expected to work as quickly as possible. There was a huge turnover of employees, including myself, within the lay up and patching dept. I saw the port side of a hull ( 38 convertible) ground completly down and covered in bondo. I feel sorry for the person who was stuck with that one.

Good thing there is no problem with the 41 Luhrs. According to Luhrs the captain's just don't know how to use tabs and the wheel correctly. What a way to fix a problem bury your head in the sand and hope it goes away or better yet blame in on the customer. I give em a year before their belly up and all those wonderful boats values goes in the toilet. Imagine buying a boat then reading this. Talk about deprication loss. Ouch
Bet you could get a Luhrs at half price in 6 months.

After reading Luhr's ridiculous "owner notification" would be salivating at the chance to cross examine management on the witness stand. Just my 2 cents worth on "As the Luhr's Turns."

Actually, if they have business insurance, then the insurance will be paying most of these damages from faulty designs. They may in fact NEED to settle these issues through lawsuits in order to get them paid that way.

What Luhrs unfortunately is doing in the meantime is killing the reputation they've built for the last 35 years.

Business insurance covering a flawed hull design? I doubt it.
