I'm going through the same thing but on a much smaller scale. My investment in a bad product is only about $60,000. Not like these guys with almost $1,000,000. I remember hearing about these Luhrs 41's falling on thier side and never getting up a few years ago when this hull was introduced. Can you imagine the great press Luhrs would be getting if they stepped up and did the right thing? Won't happen. They will cut and run.

The reason for the terminations is the fact these two men want to help the owners. They both know the problems associated with these boats. When they take the information to those in charge -- no action is taken. This has caused turmoil inside the company. Now they both take the fall. They probably felt guilty to be a part of a company that operates in this manner.

I think that Luhrs will have a hard time managin the fallout from this. When consumers spend this kind of $$$ they research, when they buy their daughters Camry its impulse, not a 41'yacht.

After looking at a 41 at the boat show why would you two guys buy such a cheap built boat? You must have a cheap lawyer as well. I dont understand how you can still be bashing a price boat.

Wow! I didn't realize $600K is considered a cheap built price boat.

Wow.... great reading. Just read all 24 pages. Can't wait to hear the end. Good Luck Mr. Sunshine and Luhrs 41. No one deserves that sort of customer service especially on a new boat.

Cantfish

I can't think of of any reason we would continue to bash the cheap builder ?? I spent $700,000.00 on a boat that has a defective hull ?? I have not had use of this boat since October 06 ??? The manufacture knows about these problems, but has ignored them -- Why would we be angry and posting ??? I don't think anyone would ever be upset with these problems. There must be something wrong with myself and Luhrs 41

Check out Luhrs web site www.luhrs.com under the "survey says" section. Just so happens the ONLY boat on the section is the Luhrs 41. Luhrs has rolled out the paid of puppet Rob Scholfield to write up what a great boat the 41 is. Rob -- You failed to mention the fact those bulkheads and hull to deck joints just rip away when the boat is used in the ocean. Please explain the healing over effect in the ride of this fine boat.

Rob Scholfield has no credibility at all. He is the hand picked naval architect Luhrs calls for any issue or legal proceeding. He is the "expert" -- very strange our group has now hired 6 naval architects and they ALL have the same conclusion of these boats -- Hull is defective. Scholfield was hired to solve the 44 problems as well. 16 Luhrs 44 were produced and every boat made has been back to the factory for the same issues as the 41. There is currently at least 2 lawsuits underway by Luhrs 44 owners. The lawsuits are beginning for the 41 right now. This is Luhrs idea of solving the problems. Fire the warranty/ customer service people and post some garbage on the web site regarding the Luhrs 41.

I have a feeling Luhrs may not be in business long enough for all these issues to be straightened out.

Default Luhrs 38 Open Owner well taken care of

I feel for all those Luhrs owners who have had horrible experiences with the manufacturer.

I would like to say that the former Service and Warrantee Manager took good care of me with my problems. Here are some of the details:

I closed on my boat in mid-March 2006 on a 2004 Luhrs 38 Open. I am the first owner. The boat had 150 hours on the engines. After 10 hours of operation, the port shaft snapped under the hub of the prop as I was throttling up after leaving the inlet. I limped home on one shaft and contacted the dealer. After some negotiations with the dealer, I contacted the Warrantee Manager. It was finally determined that the port shaft was defective, and the shaft and screw were replaced at Luhrs' expense. An inspection at my insistance determined that the starboard shaft had the same defect, and was also replaced at no cost to me. Luhrs also covered (as was only right) all of the hall out and on the hard storage costs due to this problem.

This past fall the air conditioning circulation pump stopped working. Rather than going through the local dealer, I went to the manufacturer of the A/C system, and had them come and inspect and replace the pump. The rep stated that the pump was plumbed incorrectly which caused it to easily become air bound which caused the early failure. While he (the Luhrs Warranty Manager) was unhappy that I went to the A/C rep directly instead of going through the local dealership, again, Luhrs took care of me by sending me a check for the entire amount of the bill to repair the A/C circ pump.

Most of the "punch out" items have been resolved. I still have a hard top water leak, a fuel gauge sender problem and a steering system issue, but I am working with my local dealer to get this resolved. As my boat is located on a military installation, it is not as easy as it would be to get to if it were in a civilian marina. However, as long as my local dealer continues to make an effort to resolve, I will work with them as they are a small operation. However, I'm confident that if I need to, Luhrs headquarters will make things right as they have done in the past.

p.s. Maybe I'm the exception to the Luhrs rule, but I hope not. There is probably a whole lot more to the issues stated here that have made this one of the longest threads in history.

Joe

I am happy that you have not had the problems some of us have had with Luhrs. Are you speaking of Mike Hankins ?? Some of your problems are the same as the other Luhrs - Water leaks on bridge, Air problems, stearing problems these are the MINOR problems we have had. How was the allignment of the shaft ?? I do not feel ALL Luhrs are POS. The 41 model is. Good luck with your 38 -- that is probably the best ride in the Luhrs fleet. Hope you get your punch list complete now is a good time to do that. They do not want more angry customers -- they have enough lawsuits with the 41 coming

Mr. Sunshine, the Warranty Manager I was speaking of is Brad Sanguinetti. I had heard that there has been some realignment within Luhrs, but didn't get any of the details. Brad has taken good care of me and his actions on my behalf are what I'm basing my positive experience with Luhrs upon.

My punch list has not yet been completed. While it has been over a year, the local dealer is continuing to work with me (at least on the surface). I wll keep on top of them.

The shaft alignment, each time the boat was removed from the water, was checked on land and again after the boat had sat in the water for a few days by the dealer's maintenance man. I can only presume that if it wasn't correct, he would have adjusted it. That is something I need to learn how to do as I will be picking up the majority of my oun maintenance responsibilites myself.

She is a sweet ride, and, inhsalla, I will have many years of reliable use ahead.

Hey Jags, how do you have so much info about this as a bystander?

If you were in their situation, would you or would you not be just as pissed? 700K is a lot of money to just sit by for a year and a half. The point is not how 41Luhrs is acting, it is how Luhrs is reacting. Bottome line-----they need to fix the boat right and soon. HE IS THE CUSTOMER!

Why not disclose what you know Jags if you are not involved, will it help Luhrs41 or will it help Luhrs?

It has taken over a year for Luhrs and the selling dealer to complete this? And you find this acceptable?
You are a more patient man than I, and my wife says I have the patience of Job.....
I'd have the same mind set as Mr. Sunshine and Luhrs41 if it took a manufacturer over a year to complete a punch list.

My frustration level has been rising, but the items that are outstanding are more of an annoyance. That being said, some of the items had not been on the list the entire year. I did discover some warranty-related issues during the operation of the boat. We'll see how long it takes them to complete...

It's nice to see that this thread will not die. I have a couple of question about this soap opera. Has anyone bought 41 Luhrs' boat? What happened to the x-wife? Did she get re-married? Did she sign off on the title to the old boat? Is this thread going to become a Reality TV show on Fox?
