Can't believe these gues who seem to think it is normal to have to "wash an engine room with fresh water"??

An engine room should be maintained, for sure, but that does not include washing with fresh water or cleaning salt water from it .

Please stop posting these types of idiotic comments.
Have your ever run a large (35' +) sportfisherman? These boats have fairly large engines which require two very important things to operate - Fuel + Air. Enormous amounts of air. The air comes from outside the engine room. These air vents are usually on the side of the hull or in the cockpit and are subject to spray and salt saturated air. It is common for salt residue to coat everything in an engine room because of this. Granted, there are some great new baffle systems with filter panels that are being used on higher end boats, but this is not the industry standard yet.

Cleaning and inspecting an engine room after a trip is a vital part of maintaining any boat. A dollar in preventive maintenance is worth hundreds in repairs.
Amen brother..

I have not posted my story up until last night because I have been attempting to work with Luhrs since Oct 8th. At this point I am tired of being lied to by Luhrs, and many of you posters questioning the validity of "Luhrs 41" problems with his boat. If you have noticed -there have been no more post about his title work and other attempts to make him look foolish.

My boat was purchased NEW from Nothside Marine with 10 hours. I did not have it surveyed -- Now I see this was a mistake. I have a report from an accredited surveyor and naval architect that both concluded my boat was unsafe. I quote the naval architect.
" The vessel should be restricted to inshore, calm water service until such a time as the rudder and fume tight engine room bulkhead repairs are adequately completed. All other recommendations should be done soon, but are not a cause for restriction of use of the vessel." this from the naval architect

These reports were done after January 9th, when my boat had been returned to me from Luhrs to correct my problems. My engine room and lazzarette are full of corrosion from leaking rudders and leaks from the bridge.

I had ,Seminole Boat Yard, do a report on the rudder system that states the system has "several deficiencies observed in this steering system that all have serious consequences if left unattended" I would be driving around with this boat, if another owner that had his boat in St Augustine for repairs "not 41 Luhrs" not called me to inform me of the dangers of my boat. He and an Accredited Surveyor, had observed the rudder condition of my boat on December 3 2006.He made Luhrs aware of the problem, but became worried when on Jan 15 -- He asked the 2 men in charge of fixing these boats if they had fixed my rudders. They replied No. I have a E-mail that this owner had sent to Luhrs . I received a call from this owner on Jan 16th informing me of my problems -- He was concerned because he had heard I have a 16 month old daughter that I take on my boat.

Luhrs has attempted to question the credentials and claim these people all have an "agenda" that have done reports on my vessel.

My post to Florida Sportsman Forum were done to get the reputations of these people from others. That is why I posted on the Southeast Forum.

Let me just say there are several other owners who have these same problems. They have not posted, because they had never heard of these Forums.

I do have a "agenda" Luhrs -- I want a boat that I paid $ 700,00 .00 for in the water, safe, with all parts working and fishing not on blocks in boatyards since Oct 8th.

Anyone in the position of Luhrs 41 and myself would not find this so amusing. I guess you feel it is OK for a boat manufacture with full knowledge of a dangerous problem to send a husband, wife, and 16 month old child into the ocean. VERY FUNNY SITUATION. Hell -- I can't think of something any more amusing.

The reason the owner who alerted me to this problem has not posted ?? He was bought out of his boat, by Luhrs, and signed an agreement to not comment.

Somone call the factory and let them know that this character is making up who knows how many people to trash their boats. I like it when a scumball calls a scumball a scumball.

Typical repower will be with labor and accesries aprx 48 K. Gee I think I have that much in my shirt pocket. And what do you get for 48 K? A weak dealer system with weak support and poor resale. Oh well its only money. No wonder there is a panic.

seaurchin - 12/16/2006 5:18 PM

Anyone that quotes a repower on this board without all the facts is nothing more than a con man.

seaurchin - 12/18/2006 8:37 AM
.....Suzuki right on the rear and if the 300s are a bomb which they will be,

seaurchin - 12/18/2006 8:51 AM

I never once said they would be a bomb. What I did say is there is some panic amoung Suzuki they they may be, and if they are it will be very very bad for Suzuki. Thus the nail biting and the panic.

Mr Sunshine or other affected parties, why don't you carry a sign or atleast hangout at the Miami Show Luhrs booth. I am sure there will be alot of THT members there who could hear your story firsthand. They could then respond on this forum with their thoughts after visiting with you.

hondas are great...25 years 3 cars....no issues ever always starts on first turn of the key.....even my kids bike eventually broke . now luhrs....i have a 37 year old boat i wouldnt trade for a new one
I always liked Hondas and knew they where a great car after my friends was flooded in a winter Northeaster. It flood up to the steering wheel in salt water then the next day the water froze and the car sat there for two days. Ice melted car started and he drove the car for two years and the only thing he did was rinse the car with fresh water and had to replace the alternator. I was totally amazed.
