Default Building what is still the World’s Greatest Center Console Fishing Boat

Two and a half years ago I posted a thread Building the World's Greatest Center Console-Freeman 37VH-Boat finally got Bloody! regarding the build of my Freeman 37 VH which has been by far the best fishing boat I have had the pleasure to own and operate.

Now it is time for my new build of what (IMHO) is STILL the World’s Greatest Center Console Fishing Boat – Freeman Boatworks 42LR.

I am actually ready to pick up my boat next week, but delayed in posting and writing this thread because of the Coronavirus situation. Obviously it did not seem right to celebrate a new boat build when there was so much uncertainty, when there was so much despair, when there were so many life and death issues.

2 Chronicles 7:14 New International Version (NIV) quotes God,

“14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” And so, this has been my prayer during this unprecedented modern pestilence. I pray that during this forced time of decreased activity that we (and myself first and foremost) can reflect on the important things of life and become better people and turn away from destructiveness in our own lives and turn to Our Creator who is really the only one who can heal our land. I also pray for our governmental leaders to make wise and correct decisions. Thankfully, we are seeing improvements, much less hospitalizations, less death, and now reopenings and more hope. Therefore, I felt like it would now be acceptable to post a build thread.

"Love it" when people want to paraphrase scripture of the Bible and in the same breathe boast about what they have.

Congrats Man! I rolled by yesterday in my cape bay and saw your current one. Looks killer and can’t wait to see the new one. Love the dual row option. You and Brant are going to have the nicest boats in this area

Freeman Boat Attributes
1. Superior ride
Look at this quote from a past Hulltruth post.
Yes, it's literally exactly what we're saying.
I don't own a freeman, I own several nice (34 -42 foot MONO HULL BOATS) yes, they all literally suck after riding on Freemans. It's not even comparable... but they ride literally like magic, you can't fathom it until after you go on one in severe seas.

This is why many folks switched over from their Contenders (I switched from a triple engine Contender 35ST), Yellowfins (Brant McMullan switched from a Yellowfin 39 to the Freeman 37VH), Invincibles, etc. to the “magic carpet ride” of the Freeman.

Captain Rob Hammer, a notable Keys Charter boat captain, AND one of the founders and former owners of Invincible posted the following a few years ago,
" I use to be the VP of one of the aforementioned manufacturers (Invincible). Freeman and us started at roughly the same time. We started with a bang as we had Mr. Super Naval Architect(Michael Peters). I never even considered them competition because they were a "cat". Well, let me tell you, not only are they competition, their hull is the most impressive riding hull I've ever been on and I've been on everyone of the top tier boats. When they came out with their 37, I went for a ride and was simply amazed. You could put our 36 inside theirs! I wouldn't have believed the smooth ride and dryness but it's true. If I were to buy an open fishermen today, it would be a Freeman.. hands down."

2. Roominess
Freemans are 11 to 12 feet wide and carry their width the whole length of the boat for the most part. My team fished 7 of us in my 37VH during the Big Rock Marlin Tournament and it never got crowded. The cockpit space behind the rear facing seat is enormous and rivals that of Sportfisherman battle wagons.

And as a result, storage space is immense. Immense enough to provide a sleeping compartment in one of the boxes. And the coffin box can hold ice for days and days, and a commercial load of fish.

3. Stability
Freemans do not rock and roll like a deep vee hull because the two sponsons give it stability and it tends to bob up and down more than rock and roll during trolling or bottom fishing. Therefore, me and my crew are much less tired at the end of a fishing day because we have not expended constant energy as the proprioceptors send signals to the muscles in the body to constantly try to maintain proper balance and uprightness.

In addition, as seen on Boatshow videos, if you get 14 or 15 people leaning on one side of a Freeman, it does not lean, which would help in Bottom fishing.

Superior Stability makes Fishability fantastic.

4. Construction and Finish
The no-wood construction will give decades of worry free ownership. The construction methods are top of the class using Vacuum bagging fiberglass epoxy infusion techniques that provide the strongest yet relatively light weight hulls. They use Corecell synthetic material for coring unlike some manufacturers who use Balsa wood which can potentially rot and then liquefy.

5. Innovations and Improvements
Freemans are constantly innovating and improving. Examples include Ballast tanks for getting nose down in a head sea. And now with deployment of ballast tanks beside the helm instead of in the bilge. They now have push button switches instead of toggle switches. More substantial and double sided console doors is another improvement.

The addition of Optimus Joystick with Seastation now allows very productive bottom fishing in multiple spots with ease and with no anchoring necessary. Obviously it allows for even easier docking, maneuverability, or just holding position. This joystick feature can be easily added to older Freemans since they already have Optimus Steering installed at the factory.

And one of the main reasons I am switching from the fantastic 37VH to the 42LR is for the Double Row Seating which is becoming a super popular feature on Freeman 42s and has become popular in some 40 foot plus premium Center Console boats. With the super comfortable Llebroc Seating for Six in the two rows and 2 more in the Rear Facing Llebroc seats and 2 more reclining on the Coffin box, there is seating for ten people which makes for great family use and entertaining.

6. Appearance
Freemans look great and even cause a sensation when spotted. Like this thread on the Hulltruth from less than one month ago: 42 Freeman in Savannah where someone spotted a Freeman 42 in Savannah.

I know personally when I clean my boat in front of the house, I get literally dozens of people who stop by to take pictures of the boat.

7. Financial Aspects
Freemans are almost always sold used by the original owners for considerably more than what they paid. Many times Freemans are sold for six figures MORE than what the original owners paid. The reason is simply supply and demand. The demand for Freeman boats is great and INCREASING MORE than their ability to PRODUCE the boats despite moving twice to new facilities to increase production capacity.

Even in this current financial situation, Freeman orders are still coming in, and the waiting times are still over 3 years!

Obviously people don’t want to wait three years, but there is a positive aspect to that. When you put your order in, you are locked in at that year’s price such as 2020 prices, and when you build your boat three years later, it’s value is at 2023 prices which are significantly higher. So you get a boat that is already worth more than you are paying. People ask, why are Freemans so expensive. And what would you expect Billy Freeman to do, if he increases production and the demand continues to go up and waiting times go up. By regular business principles, you increase the price of your product because that is good business. But again, it benefits the person who puts in the new order.

As another example, I know for a fact that a new 2020 Freeman 42LR has received an offer for more than $250,000 more than the build cost because the offer is at 2020 prices and the build cost was previous years’ price list! The offer was turned down because the Freeman owners know they will likely still get a similar price or even higher two or three years down the line after enjoying their new boat. There is absolutely no other boat that I know of which commands similar price dynamics.

For all these reasons, and more, it is my honest opinion that Freemans are STILL the World’s Greatest Center Console Fishing Boat. And it is not my opinion alone, what is more important, is the Market has that opinion by way of pricing and that protects the interests of any potential Freeman owner.

No wonder so many Yellowfin, Contender, Invincible, and other brand owners are making the switch because of ALL these ATTRIBUTES, not just the superior financial attributes.

Awesome boat, Kendall! Can't wait to see the finished product sitting on your lift. I rode by a couple weeks ago and saw the empty Freeman cradle at your dock, I was hoping to see the new boat, but it looks like she's still in the oven. Enjoy it, we are all very jealous! Freeman does make the world's greatest center consoles. Not many brands will give you the sensation that you mentioned when seeing it. It is truly remarkable! I am guilty of oogling and taking photos when I see one lol.

With all respect , yes you have a great boat but that was then and this is now and I have seen several boats that best it. Have you been to the Ft .Lauderdale or Miami boat show. I have and many claim the the #1 spot and rightfully so and then comes next year. You truly have a fantastic boat and it's always the #1 boat as long as you enjoy and use it. The more hours you put on that boat , the more it becomes #1 in my eyes. Fish on!!!

If his 37 is still for sale and he is about to take delivery of the 42, that may explain his hyping up of the Freeman boats. Dont get me wrong, I would love to have one, but probably not 2

Does Freeman give you a discount off your new boat when you post up crap like this? Quoting Chronicles 7:14....."humbling themselves"? Really?
