Default Has anyone ever retired an old boat they loved and turned it into something else?

I'd driven past a dilapidated boat on a trailer in a field for years, and though for sale, obviously noone was buying it for a reason. It had this chopped top old hot rod look to it that just gets me. Turned out it's a 76 Catalina 22 sailboat, put through hell, probably sank, and was relegated to dying in the field. So.... before thousands more people than fam and coworkers instantly recognize the depths of my insanity, has anyone turned a relic boat into yard art, a guest house, a home theater, a hot tub, anything at all? Given it a new life as something else? If you have, please post!! Show us what you did, and why.
And yes... of course I got the boat. 🤪

Girlfriend's sister's neighbors have an old CC hull that the bow is buried in the ground, stern sticking almost straight up in the air about 8' or so. Think it was used as a planter at one point, bunch of pink flamingos would look better. My humble opinion Boats do not make good yard art unless they are a usable boat, anything else just looks trashy.

Now a friend of mine has the transom from a Bertram in his man cave as a bar, very cool way to save a part of a beloved boat. I have always wanted my desk to be based on the transom of a sporty, maybe one day.

We have a wooden boat in our office building; it has been gutted and converted to a casual hangout spot. It's about 20ft long. Pretty cool. If I ever win the mega million lottery, I'd do that.

I have seen 10 ft cut off the bow and set upright at the end of a driveway as the kids "school bus shelter".

It was green encrusted lichen a week ago. CLR and Spraynforget worked pretty well.
If this were your buddy's mancave on a permanent cradle, dechromed, destriped, completely stripped, reskeletoned, reupholstered, with a roll bar replacing the wood center post, and a flatscreen hanging from it.... would you go hang out in it on a sunny day with the roof open, watch tube, and eat burgers and ribs because your buddy is a helluva griller??

I'm in western Pa. I still have to pick up the mast and sails from the seller, so haven't seen them yet. If its usable, I'd happily let it go to help someone else keep theirs going.
From the extent of damage to all the rails, I have to wonder if the mast escaped all the devastation. I'm not using it, as the goal is street rod style, not sailboat.

Yep, friend made a runabout into a planter for at least 20 years. Had a lot of weeds though. Hated to see it go when they burned it up for a Burning Man type celebration but it was a fun party.

I love the transom bars, and I've thought of turning a sufficiently large hull upside down and using it as an outdoor pergola, but it would have to be the right wood hull.

Hey, I'd be interested in the sails if they are in bad shape. I've been looking for some throw-away level sails to use as shade tarps over my deck.

Guy in Pensacola turned a 1986 Chris Craft into a car. It’s street legal and he drives it around town.

Why do I picture the bow sticking out of the ground with a Virgin Mary stuck inside?

I'm still stuck on cabin home theater and gaming system getaway, but hey, you uh.. can do that other stuff with your boat.

honestly, no I would not hang out in a Catalina 22 in the water let alone in the driveway, that’s what a garage is for

I like the man cave and guest house ideas. How about an RV?
