Default Vessel ID?

Was running down Egmont Channel (St Pete, FL) today and saw this strange guy. I'm thinking some sort of research vessel or something, anchored out by the tankers.

Looks like a ship to lay underwater cable.

Sweet! Never would have even remotely guessed this. Thanks!

Cool ship. It's pretty awesome to see the technology first-hand. We use all this stuff everyday, but have no clue how it gets there or operates.

I believe I saw that vessel off Freeport Bahamas a couple years ago.

Worked on one very similar to this one back in the ‘90’s....laying Coflexip pipeline for the Conoco Marquette and Joliet platforms. Can’t remember the name of the vessel....but, it was flagged out of Panama.

That is pretty cool. Here is a video of it in action.
