Default 23' Yellowfin vs. 23T Contender

I just recently sold my boat and was looking to downsize a little and get something with four strokes on it. I have been seriously considering either the 23' Yellowfin w/ twin Yamaha F150's or 23T Contender with twin Yamaha F150's. I just wanted to hear some feedback from someone with any experiences with the 23' Yellowfin. I am very familiar with the Contender and I know they are great boats, but I have heard so many good things about the Yellowfin's I didnt want to totaly rule them out before making my final decision... Thanks

Well I am not really downsizing because I want a smaller boat, I mostly just want four strokes...

Joe/Chris, why would you want to go down to 150 4 strokes? Those 200 HPDIs are just about the best engine ever made!

How's business?

I just wanted something quieter, and something that would use less gas/oil. Buisness is still steady down here, but it has slowed down alot for previous years.... how are you doin??

I like both boats.

Minor layout differences, such as one has a transom door and front-opening console, while the other has a closed transom, with side-opening console door.

One sells through dealers, while the other seems to be primarily factory direct.

I think the YF will turn more heads (if that matters to you).

If you're not itching for a new boat and simply want 4-stroke power, you might want to consider repowering your Contender 25 with twin 175 Verado's or Suzuki's (which should be lighter in weight than V6 4-strokes that are likely too heavy for your application). Performance of the 25 with twin 175's would probably be about the same as the 23T with twin 150's.

I sent you a PM. Both are great boats. I bought the Contender 23T. The layout was better for me, the local dealer is great, and my last Contender(23 Open) held up great.

i like quietus' 23 'fin. nice boat. i think its hull #8?. i understand hull #10 was completed now? what im pointing out is, the 'fin will most likely be a wait of a year or more for delivery? and the contender could be delivered right away. just a consideration.

cheers.

My preference would be the YF, although both are good choices. Drew may be right that there's a wait for a new 23 at YF, but I would not speculate. Call YF or just PM Wylie here and ask him what the build schedule will be. Maybe tack on an extra week or two for delays, but I've found Wylie to be pretty good with his production estimates. The delivery date may be an important factor to you, but base it on facts before ruling out an awesome boat.

That sure lets me know whether I would buy a used one if that is how they are treated.

With your location the Contender seems like a better idea. They're both great boats but the dealer network makes Contender a lot easier to work with. If all you want are four strokes why don't you just repower?

Well it's only been 4-1/2 years so who knows if that boat landed as yet.
