Default Center Console Toy question

My five year old wants a toy center console with 4 motors for Christmas. In fact, that is all he wants for Christmas and i've never seen or heard of one. Any ideas?

Maybe talk to an RC boat enthusiast.

I think you might have found yourself in the scratch building zone.

Ive been playing around with the idea of building an r/c centre console/ walk around, the necessary parts (I.e. outboards) are available but I haven’t seen an off the shelf model or even kit. The outboards aren’t cheap RV electric outboards but I suppose you’ll save a bit on shafts, rudders, stuffing boxes etc by using them.

If you’ve got any glassing skills then making your own hull isn’t hard, just a bit time consuming - make a wooden plug, then a fibreglass female mould, then you can lay up a hull in a few hours or less, and pop it out when it’s cured.

If you do a reasonable job, there’s probably a small market for the hulls if you wanted to make a couple of bucks, but I doubt you’ll be able to cover the cost of building your own

I'd go into the model boat building business. Most of the toys I had when growing up were fabricated by my father in his wood shop. This was WW II era and my best present was a model of a B 29 with a "bomb site" which dropped marbles. I played with that for years. Also a "Ski racer" which was passed on to why children and grand children--

When I was young, I made model boats--some toothpicks for ribs and frames, covered with paper the painted with "Dope". Others I made of balsa wood planks, mostly were hard chine, or multiple chine. If your son wants running electric outboards that may be a challenge--but could be done...just to look like--fairly easy.

No matter what, if you make it, he will appreciate it all the more--and cherish it thru the years!

I wanted to put a moat around the Xmas tree and ditch the train tracks last year. Couldn’t find anything off the shelf

For display-only scale models:

This guy might be willing to make a custom version with 4 outboards. Probably pricey.

Or maybe you could ask these guys who made theirs:

I got the one from Cabela’s for my kid about a year ago. Highly recommend. I think he’s got more hours on it in the bath and in the pool than us on the real boat.

Thanks for all of the replies, suggestions and PM's. My boat has twins, so he wants 4 on his.... I'm going to attempt to turn the Cabelas twin into a quad. If I cant, I'll glass up something one night and put 4 Cabelas outboards on it. Thanks again for the ideas and Merry Christmas!
