Default Evinrude G2 300HP Nightmare

I want to let everyone know about the extensive issues I have had with my Evinrude G2 300hp that I purchased in 3/2018. Since my purchase the motor has been in the shop TEN TIMES (in the shop now), and I have lost nearly six months of time waiting on repairs. I have filed two complaints with BRP and have not received a response yet. The inferior quality of the product and their lack of response are totally unacceptable. Before this motor I had 15 trouble free years out of a Mercury 150 EFI and then three trouble free years out of a Yamaha 300 Offshore (lost in Hurricane Harvey). Until BRP stands behind their product, my goal will be to convince as many people as possible to purchase an outboard from any manufacturer other than BRP.

Wow. Good to know. I have a flats boat I am considering repowering and since it's older and has a 2 stroke, was wanting to repower with same. Looks like as much as I would like to have a new 2 stroke, 4 stroke will be the way to go. Best of luck.

Every brand lets a lemon out the door every now and again. Hope they get your situation sorted out but I doubt your situation is the norm.

What has been the issue(s) with the engine? Also, has the same person been working on it to fix it or multiple?

My suggestion in this kind of a post is to list the reasons (10) that the motor had to go to the shop. The more specific and organized you are, the better.

Use paragraphs, dates, etc. If you present your information in one long run-on paragraph it will likely lose validity.

Good Luck.

If that was in reply to me... you have a 1% chance of getting any decent traction here on THT.

OldPete,
I sent the list to BRP customer service when I file my complaints but never received a response.

Have an Evinrude G2 250 HO, it's a beast. Love it. The steering is awesome.

why? Seems pretty accurate and straight to the point, it's simply a list of issues, not a complete novel.

Is this a rant? Or are you looking for advice in regards to how to proceed?

Was the motor installed by an authorized dealer? Why are they not taking care of you?

It is probably more of a rant, and to let others know about my ongoing issues with the Evinrude product and their lack of corporate support. You can do what you want with the information. I purchased the motor from an authorized dealer, and the current shop is an authorized service center with trained techs. They have repaired each breakdown, but then a different issue arises. I may have a lemon, or it may be an accurate representation of the product quality that BRP is selling. Of that I can't be sure. I just know that my Evinrude has been offline for 30% of the year and a half I have owned it, with multiple issues.

I feel bad for you. I had a pair of 2017 G2 300's. The power and fuel economy was great. However, I had no confidence that they would start or continue to run after being started. I sold them after about 150 hours and had Suzuki's installed. It cost me some extra money but after reading about your experiences with the G2 I am glad that I sold them.

Not too sure about the validity of "lemon" these days, the chances of a pile of faulty new components (that go into building a complete item) all being fitted to the one device would be very slim, add to that, the chances of a slack assembly worker fitting them, on a Friday makes it even more remote. Quality control over assembly components, quality control checks along the way, and testing after completion is pretty rigorous, whether it be a car, outboard or TV, if it's a quality item, manufacturing control is pretty well handled.

Can you elaborate on these issues? 10 service visits must include multiple visits for the same issue? Or a visit for diagnosis and then another visit for repair/replacement?

Also, wiring harness and key switch could be rigging issues, not motor issues...hard for us to know.

Every mfg makes a few lemons. I heard someone had a problem with F225’s and corrosion, Yamaha hung that person out to dry.

if you didn’t get a reply call them.
