Default Help, Flywheel will NOT come off ! (SOLVED)

I have been unsuccessful on getting my flywheel off of my 96 Johnson 130hp V4.

Any suggestions on how to get this SOB flywheel off?

It has stripped 2 pullers, the center bolt that you turn in hopes it takes it off, both have stripped.
Pulling the breaker bar on that bolt is hard and then I feel the threads strip and it slips out, unable to tighten back down.

It seems like the flywheel has super magnetics holding it down, it does not budge at all.

You put tension on it with a puller... a lot, but not enough to strip any threads. Then, either apply some periodic heat (so it warms and cools) and/or some vibrations (LIGHT taps with a hammer, or just put a hammerdrill up to it for a bit). Let IT work itself loose but be patient and give it time.

You break all kinds of things when you try to rush a job like that.

Once you get it under tension but before it seems to strip the puller (get a better puller) TAP (not HIT) it with a hammer on the puller center bolt. Tap tap tap, put a 1/4 turn on, tap tap tap, put a 1/4 turn on.......

Can also lightly tap on the flywheel outside the circle of the puller -- LIGHTLY.

Use an impact wrench on the center screw of the puller. Takes some courage but that will get the fly wheel off!

Same advice as above, tighten, tap, tap, tap. There is a product called Kroil, kind of like PB Blaster, WD40 etc but it works incredibly well. Spray where the shaft comes through the flywheel, let it soak overnight, spray some more the next day and proceed with tightening and tapping. Kroil does make a difference

Stop whatever you are doing, soak everything in PB Blaster repeatedly and try again in 24 hours.....

heat on certain area of parts can help. A proper puller also , not harbor junk.

I've been using the blue wrench lately on stuff, makes everything just go easier. Heat the thing that's on the outside of the bolt, that makes it larger, and not quite as tight. PB blaster as well, except that'll burn off, so let it soak overnight.

Yes I did let it soak overnight with a nice amount of WD-40 and tried pulling it earlier this morning for nothing. I could have used my impact gun, but I felt like it might cause some problems, so that's why I did not use it.

What ended up working was patience, the 1/4" turns on the puller which I did every 30 minutes about 6 times, along with the tap tap tap tap on the flywheel with a rubber mallet, loosen it up enough to where the last couple of love taps helped pop it off !

Here's a picture with the flywheel off and after looking at it, it looks like the woodruff key needs replacing, what do you think ?

Woodruff key does not keep the fly wheel from turning with respect to the crank shaft if that is what you are thinking. It only is used to index the fly wheel to the crank shaft when it is mounted thereon.

What kind of puller are you using? The factory puller kit or an automotive steering wheel or vibration damper puller?

Rubber hammer? No. Ya gotta make the flywheel vibrate at high frequency. Steel or brass hammer!

The reason I asked was, I read a lot that said if it was sheared or small enough to where it was almost flat with the crankshaft, that it could cause problems and should be replaced. But from what you wrote it sounds like mine is ok?

I did smack the center "bolt" of the puller with a hammer, although lightly, if that is what you are meaning?
I didn't want to smack the surface of my flywheel with any kind of metal hammer in fear of damaging it, not another cost I would want to take on if I could avoid it.

I was guessing the 'Yam' reference was to those ones who had flywheels that came off by themselves, but maybe I'm wrong.
