Default 2005 Yamaha 250 Vmax HPDI - Questions

Hi - I have a 2005 Ranger Z21 Comanche with a Yamaha 250hp Vmax HPDI engine. It has a push button transmission selector. The boat shifts into Reverse and Neutral, but when I try to shift into Forward, it jumps into Forward and then right back into neutral, and there is a red blinking light on what I believe is the Shift Actuator (?) (a silver/aluminum box with a clear plastic top that's got 2 cables and wires running into it located in the back of the boat). The boat was working fine, but after a long bumpy ride back home, it seems to have developed this problem. I've checked the lower case oil level and it's OK. I also checked to see if anything rattled loose and was possible blocking any of the linkage at the bottom of the engine, but everything looked OK. Any ideas? Thanks for your help. - Joe.

Is it really going into forward gear or perhaps is something blocking it from going into forward, in which case it quits trying and reverts to the neutral position?

Have you tried disconnecting the shift cable at the motor to see what happens when you manually shift the motor into forward gear? With the motor at an idle RPM of course.

Have you contacted Ranger Boats to find out who makes the actuator unit?

Thank you for responding, alloyboy! While I'm not that mechanically inclined anymore, I have looked at the bottom of the motor to see if there was anything obvious that was blocking the linkage down there (loose bolt/screws) but didn't see anything. I'll have to see if I can get some help in checking the engine as you recommend. But thank you for the suggestion, I very much appreciate it! - Joe.
