Not sure what tournaments you all fish, but when "I" am on the water, any flicker out of place stands out like a beacon...I mean, a boat is a "person encroaching"... debris, holds bait that holds fish.

That being said, no amount of money or prize would keep me from looking for lost boats...

Give the tournament people a little credit. They would/do want people looking for them as much as anyone else, so.. they look... they watch....if someone does not get that... then they don't understand the water.

Keep the faith.. everyone wants these men back safe.

yesterday's USCG briefing clarified that the ping occurred at about 1pm and NOT 1am as previously and erroneously reported, or just about at the time that the subject fishermen were at their fishing spot.

This is such a strange story. Two apparently very fit men, very experienced in survival one would think, excellent search weather and extreme and overwhelming search efforts and nothing but a fish bag?

Extremely frustrating........

I just saw they were suspending the active search at dusk today. That’s sad. Just sad.

No, they will continue the search, just not with "all the resources"... i.e. they will still be looking for them.

Saw it on multiple news reports. Here are two different quotes. Basically only other clue besides the bag. Sat at 1am is a big clue (if its legit)

Source- WFTV 9 Orlando
"The Coast Guard confirmed Wednesday that the last cellphone ping they received from the missing boat was Friday afternoon about 12 miles off shore."

Florida Times Jax-
“We’re going to find them and get them home,” Randy Wyse, president of the Jacksonville Association of Firefighters, said Sunday afternoon during the search
Wyse said there had been some positive signs earlier.
“We got a ping on the cell phone about 1 a.m. on Saturday morning, so that’s positive that they were still out there,” Wyse said.

I tried digging as deep as i could for any more information. Im really surprised that is not talked about more.

The thrill of winning a Tournament wouldn't hold a candle to the thrill of being a part of rescuing these guys or any guys. If you find these guys thats one of your biggest achievements in life bar none. I don't care who you are.
Still praying here and still have a lot of hope.

Got it. That's what the USCG Miami Watch Officer said. They had the pings on the way out but not all the way to the reef. I.e., the reef was beyond range. Jives with my iPhone 7 range. 12 miles max for station pickup, 8 miles for voice and text. So last ping was ~1pm on the outbound to 8A.

Thanks.

Yes - There is some other potential component here that, while I will not post it as it is of no value at this point, continues to dance around in my head.

Continued best wishes and positive thoughts to the families and all involved.

Obviously the CG 1p ping from yesterday is correct. It’s even labeled as 1pm on the CG search map for last Saturday. The president of JFRD was incorrect.

If you, among others, would stop posting every irrelevant thought you have there would be a lot less clutter here and a lot more useful information for those of us who are long time lurkers and have joined to provide well wishes to the OP and his family. Why don’t you guys go start another thread?

USCG Jacksonville reported a distress call, USCG Charleston reported an orange life vest. The distress call seemed like a separate incident, the orange life vest TBD.
