Default 93 175 horse evinrude

Hey I bought a 88 champion bass boat with a 175 horse evinrude 1993 and the shop did a comoression test they told me it was 110 105 and 95 I'm not sure if the engine is a looper or what this is my first boat so this is all new to me I've been told the compression is good and others told me it's bad any info would be great thanks

If it is a 1993, then it is a 2.6 liter Eagle Looper. That is a fine compression.

As long as the variation from highest to lowest reading is 15 psi or less, the compression in an OMC outboard is "good".

The 175 is a V6. What were the other 3 compression readings?

It’s a 6 cylinder, there should be three more compression numbers.

edit

I was asking the same question while it was being posted.

I wouldn’t worry about those numbers. You own it already. Run it. You could do a decarb on it . One of the bottom cylinders powers the VRO pulse and could be naturally lower a bit.
I have seen seasoned outboard techs do a quick compression check without going through the proper procedures just for a quick check . Not fully accurate but close enough. They may be better than what you’re seeing but again . It’s alright , run it.

Sounds perfectly normal for a 25+ year old Evinrude. Run it!

If you engine looks like this then it’s a 60 degree looper.

When mine idles in gear in the water at 500 rpms it sounds like loop, loop, loop, loop, loop, loop.
Also to note, I have no idea what my compression numbers are . But it hauls the load .
