Default 04 Yamaha 150 hp oil transfer pump transfers oil with engine running only

Maybe somebody can shed some light on this. I have twin 04 Yamaha 150 hp carbed engines. The starboard engine transfers oil from the remote tank to the main tank only when the engine is cranked and running. The override switch will activate the pump with the ignition key switch on the ON position without the engine running. If I have the key switch on ON and move the floater on the sensor switch up and down nothing happens. If I crank the engine, the pump activates, and transfers oil.
the port engine, however, will transfer oil with the ignition key switch on ON without the engine running. If move the float switch sensor up and down, the alarm buzzer will sound, and the pump will activate and transfer oil without the engine running.
so the starboard engine transfers with the engine running only and the port engine transfers without the engine running as long as the key switch is on ON.
which is the correct way?
also only the port engine sets off the alarm buzzer if I move the floater, the starboard will not. Are they both supposed to set off the alarm individually?

thanks in advance
i was searching for the cause of the buzzer going off

The port motor has a problem.

Any time the mail oil tank float is below a certain level the alarm should sound. The motor should go into RPM reduction mode. A Yamaha tachometer will indicate a low oil status.

With just the key on the manual switch should work. Both should alarm when float is low and go into limp mode.

First, clean all the ground connections and see where your at. Have a good look over the engine block and remove and clean all the ground connections there too.

Thanks all

will check the ground cables
the good news is I ran it today with no alarms going off
checked oil levels when I got in and both tanks were full so they both seem to be transferring correctly.
