Default bought a brand new Grady White, but a broken one!

cracked transom for my new 2019 adventure 208, should I be concerned?

so just bought this brand new 2019 adventure 208 and found the transom broken just few days later when I was washing the boat. it's broke before dealer delivered the boat to me from the picture I took at dealer's place.

called grady white customer relation department requesting a return of the boat or giving financial discount back, since I paid high value for a brand new boat not a cracked boat. No they wont agree to do that. the guy (i am not releasing his name for now) on the phone even said: we never said our boat is perfect! (what the heck! that means cracked transom is normal for their quality control??), I was shocked at that saying. GW do agree to extend the hull warrenty for 1 year.

back to the dealer, dealer sales denied noticing this crack when they deliver the boat. however from the picture I took on site on the delievery day, the crach was there. I found this picture later and prove this (the picture with two curcles). it's impossible for dealer not seeing this crack since they will lift the engine to move the boat around.

GW arranged a survey for the boat, the report saying: " A gel coat FRP repair at the transom top likely resulting from a latent manufacturing void in the transom core material, or over-tightening of the outboard transom clamp, was performed using industry accepted practices. This repair, very minor and cosmetic in nature, is not considered to be a deficiency, nor does alter the current new value. " however immediately there is a disclaim statement: “EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY” saying not responsible for any loss for the inspection or whatsoever.

dealer now put my boat outside, and a heavy storm is coming tonight.

my complaint is that I paid for a new boat, but got a cracked boat, even it's repaired. and I am not satisfied with their attitude, from GW manufacture and the dealer. I would never buy a cracked boat with a price for a new boat.

You bought a boat with a warranty for a manufacturing defect. You knew, or should have known, about the warranty. Due diligence. Defect found. Defect remedied.

What's the problem?

I have a GW and I wouldn't be surprised if one still wet with paint had the transom fall off. That being said, their customer service is top notch even when you buy one from the guy that bought it from the guy that bought it. Either way I'm just waiting for my popcorn in the microwave.

Sorry Bub...the only crach I'm smellin' is your story. Correct your grammar throughout, rewrite your tale, post some more details then curcle the crach and post a pic. I'm out of popcorn so I'll just stick with the beer.

A simple cosmetic gelcoat defect can be (and from what I can tell Was) fixed perfectly without affecting the value of the boat by 1 penny. Sure it would have been nice if the dealer or you had noticed it before you took delivery, but they clearly did the right thing by fixing it immediately and they even paid for a survey to give you an independent professional opinion.

I certainly don't agree that you're entitled to some discount now.

If you accepted the boat, then its a warranty issue. One they seem to be correcting without a problem. Now if you would have noticed that before taking delivery, then I wouldnt blame you for wanting a different boat, and they would have no choice. But once you accept delivery then it falls under your warranty. Thats why you have one

Look at those shoes. There is no way I'm letting her on my boat with those things, she'll scuff it up. I'd leave her at the dock.

Did someone actually fix the defect? I can't tell for sure from the OP's description.

Just cut to the chase. If they don’t give you another boat or some money back you are going to expose them on the internet. This only happens about once a month around here. Buy a grill and hang it off the transom so you don’t have to look at the massive crack.

I wish my Grady had a nice crack on the transom like this. Lol.

I have spoken with Carolyn and Burt at Grady Customer service. I think they have 4 people working the phones there now. This is not something they would say. I have owned 2 Grady's and Everytime I call there they are just professional, nice and helpful. I agree something doesn't add up on the story. I bought my 228 new and discovered two voids in the gelcoat in the bow region of the boat. The dealer and Grady worked with me. The boat was surveyed and repaired without any costs to me. To this day I could not find where the issue was and never have had any hull issues after that
