Default Need some help---Suzuki-Johzuki as they are also know as

Suzuki-Johnsons or John-zuki's as they are better know as
Acquired a boat that is powered by 2004 Suzuki Built 225HP four strokes branded Johnson motors. Everything on the engine is Suzuki, however the harness, ECM and ignition are all Johnson/evinrude/OMC. Having some issues with what the book says is the CKP sensor, ordered a new one and same issue, code still flashing after resetting system and engine in limp mode. Does anyone have any experience with these engines or know of a mechanic who does and is honest and won't break it off in you, preferably in the MD/VA area? I Know Danny's Marine and A&M have decent reputations (eastern shore of MD), but I'm finding out that they can't hook up the diagnostics cables etc., because it only reads OMC. Any help is appreciated. Figured I'm probably screwed, there is a reason why OMC/Johnson/Evinrude were bought out of bankruptcy.... thanks.

I doubt the ECM had any OMC involvement.

"ECM and ignition are all Johnson/evinrude/OMC."

Your ECM, ignition, wiring harness, etc., are all Suzuki, so you need to find a Suzuki dealer/mechanic.

The books may not tell the whole story. Usually when a sensor code is set the system is not necessarily saying that the sensor is fault. It is perhaps saying that the ECM is not seeing a correct value from the sensor. Bad input (say voltage) to the sensor equals bad output from the sensor. Then too, defective wiring can set a sensor code.

The electrics in the Johnson and Evinrude Suzuki badged motors had differences to accommodate the SystemCheck gauges, J&E wiring harnesses, and different programming of the ECU.not to mention the different control cables. OMC and BRP have special software and an interface cable assembly for diagnosing the motors. You have to find a dealer (preferably a long time dealer) who has the diagnostic tools with the J&E Diagnostic software program

We plug into these motors all the time with Suzuki software. I know it will hook up and I’m 99% sure it shows everything the SDS shows, but you need the big round diagnostic plug instead of the square plug.

With the said ckp code is usually a shift indicator switch or neutral safety switch.
