Default 1996 Pursuit WA 2870 W/Twin 150 HP is the enough.

As the title says, is this enough HP? Doesn’t have a hardtop or Rocket launcher. Please share your thoughts.
Thanks.

They used to hang 150s on walkarounds this size and I never understood it. Will definitely be sluggish and slow to plane. Would be looking for 225s minimum for a hull that size personally

No. 200’s minimum. Even that will be a little sluggish.

I had a 2870 CC with 225 Yamaha and that we the minimum power Id run on that hull. 150s are definitely not enough power.

Apples to oranges comparison here.
We had a 2860 Denali.. Same hull as the 2870 but with I/O's.
Our boat had twin 4.3l V6 Merc's (with Bravo 3's) that were about 200hp each. I believe they weighed around 800lbs each w/o the outdrive. I was worried about power until went for a ride. She cruised close to 30mph and topped out over 45mph.
With the weight savings of twin 150hp outboards, I din't think you'd be too far off those numbers. Go for a ride! That's the only way to tell.

Have this boat ('01 w/ hard top - owned since new) with twin 4.2l F250s and runs like a dream 3.3l F225s on her before and they ran perfectly fine. Friend has the same hull with 3.3l F200s and she runs well but could use a little more power on the top end. Planing is not an issue for either V6 platform. The loss of displacement would concern me before the HP.. and the HP concerns me.. Those F150s are beasts but that's asking a lot from them, especially when fully loaded for fishing coming back in some swells.

If you're not going too far, too heavy and don't mind being a bit sluggish, then maybe. Only way to tell is to take her for a run if possible. The 150s MIGHT surprise us all. If she can plane under 4000RPM and WOT 5500-6000RPM with a working load then you should be in good shape.

Going to check this boat out tonight after work. Anything to look for besides the HP issue?

I have 200s on my 2670, and they are perfect for my boat. The 2870 is a bigger slightly heavier hull. I do not think you would be happy

We didn’t even run the boat. A little rougher than what we were looking for.
Thanks for all the feedback.
