More info needed than that , don’t guess or you’ll possibly burn something up.
battery switch or engine and trolling motor? Very vague.

Are you asking how to differentiate which battery is which or which battery goes where on the boat?

Hope he has insurance

all the little wires. Usually are going on the house. Along with a fat red and a fat black

starting batt gets the other fat red and fat black.

Dude. Good luck. Hopefully you don’t launch next to me.

Slow down , describe your situation in more depth and post some pictures.
No one knows what you’re asking.

Keep in mind the battery negative terminals only connect to each other ( neg to neg ) and the engine block and to the house neg bus ( and maybe bilge pump negative wire) with either black or yellow negative cables.

Do you have one or more main battery switches in these circuits?

Only red positive cables to the battery positive studs or posts. If you have battery switches , Red battery cables go to switch terminal 1 for 1st battery and 2 for 2nd battery and the C (common terminal would go to engine starter solenoid and house loads..

All positive leads except from battery + to the starter solenoid should be appropriately fused within 8-10"(?) of the battery or battery switch to protect the wiring not the individual loads which should have their own nearby fuse or breaker protection. .

If you have cobbled wiring with incorrect positive and negative colors, DON"T hook anything up . Let someone who is very familiar with boat electricity and testing check and label everything & then hook them up before the loads and batteries are expensively damaged or worse. That only takes a split second of reversed connections.

Until the OP comes back to explain exactly what his brain fart is causing him to forget, everyone is just stabbing at what he's trying to ask - pretty sure he's not asking does the red lead go to the pos or neg terminal (that would require brain diarrhea not just a fart!) but either how to differentiate which battery is the starter and which is the house or he's asking how to ascertain which pair of terminals the house goes onto and which pair for the starter.
