Default Yamaha 225 4 stroke issues

2000 4 stroke 225 yamaha not running right. When I was putting the boat away for the winter last fall I had problems running up the bay to boat ramp.
Ran normal 4,500 rpm then it started to fluctuate to 3,000 then jump back to 4,500. Did this a few times until I hit the no wake zone. Backed it
down and she ran rough until I got to the ramp where I put it in neutral and it died. Got on trailer and when trying to start she would run really rough.
Some said it sounded like water in the fuel but checked all the filters and no water present. Last year I had issues and replaced low pressure fuel pump
as well as cleaned injectors and VST tank. Don't know what to do next. HELP!
Thanks - Jeff

Have you checked all the F225 corrosion threads? if not, do a search on here.

You probably already do this but you could try treating the fuel with star tron. Run it for 5-10 minutes then let it sit for a few days... then see how she runs. I had a similar issue this spring and feared the worst but this seems to have her purring again. Good Luck!

Similar symptoms last season on port motor and VST cleaning/filter change solved it

Last season I had the tank drained and new fuel added. ran the season without a problem. Put fuel in mid-August
and didn't use the boat until we pulled it early Oct. when the problem arose. Fuel shouldn't go bad after 2 months could it?

sounds like a HP Fuel pump if it has one in the VST like my Honda's. When was the last time you replaced all the filters? Could be water in the fuel.

Pulled the filter on the motor as well as the water seperator filter put fuel in glass jar and found no water.
Low pressure fuel pump was replaced last year.

Do what this guy says. Sounds like the high pressure pump. Low pressure fills the vst and high pressure takes the vst fuel and injects it into the cylinders.

Do the Yamaha's have high pressure FP's as well. I'm not as familiar with Yamaha's, but most early 4 strokes had a HP & LP FP's.

I usually go here Boat Repair Forum if I have a motor issues I cant sort out. Very knowledgeable members over there and always willing to help, IMO.

Another thought as it does sound like fuel delivery issue: If vst is ok, have someone manually pump the fuel primer bulb while you are driving. You said the lp pump is new as well so you could have a clogged fuel pickup in your tank. Some have a screen.

This past weekend I tried running motor on a gas can. Motor would not start, only would fire up when I used starting fluid but would die and not run on fuel.
Pulled the low pressure pump and tested it, pumped strong. I opened the drain screw on the VST tank and got a drop or 2 of gas to come out. Not sure if the drain is plugged or not.
Are there any check valves that stop gas from draining out of VST tank?
Not sure where to go next.

Check your float in the VST. Might be stuck
