Default Boat Plug light failure

I dont usually do stuff like this but felt i needed too...Do not purchase anything from "Boatpluglight.com".
Bought a life time warranted solid brass plug light last season. Didn't make it a couple of months
before it crapped out. I emailed the company and after a little back and forth they agreed to send a replacement but said it was my fault for using the light while on plane. Wth? Said I burned it up. Anyways months have gone by and no replacement has arrived. When they couldn't provide a tracking number I asked for an RMA to send it back for refund and was greeted by a very nasty unprofessional email that actually contained insults. It was laughable. I told them to keep their garbage product and be sure to look for my reviews. This normally isn't my style but felt I had to. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of these guys...to bad to because its a great product idea.

I have a friend who has these and I remember looking at them when he bought his. I do remember them talking about the light being cooled and NOT to operate it out of water. Don't recall specifically discussion about whether they cautioned about being "on plane" or not, but it makes sense if the light is out of the water flow on plane that it could overheat and fail. I'll remind my friend about it just in case.

I just checked their website and they say not to operate out of water. on plane, the plug is out of water, and hence overheated

Yep. What you get is an inexpensive light that screws into your drain flange. No holes drilled in the hull to mount the light. I'll take this all day over some of the expensive lights that crap about after a few years and now you're left with holes to fill.

Its was the model Loki 2. Solid brass and replaced existing plug flange. Great idea but failed in execution. Hard to belive they advertise boats on plane all over their adds and site and you can't run on plane. I mainly wanted it for added visibility to others running at night. All that a side the way they handled the communication when the warranty came about was my main issue. Flat out rude and insulting...also said they mailed replacement that they did not. I would have felt better had they just said I used it incorrectly and voided the warranty than the way they handled it. I'm just gonna toss it in the trash and move on. Just trying to help others avoid the same thing

Every few months I think they spam this site with their fake accounts.

Interesting , I have a Typhon 2 which I haven't installed yet. The video clearly shows it on a boat on plane.

I have installed probably 50 of these over the years with only one known failure and they warrantied it quickly. I have found that are hard to beat for the money. I haven’t found another light of the same brightness or quality for anywhere close to the same price.

It sucks they way way they handled your claim, because their product is solid based on my experience.

I have a black light in mine. When I turn it on, the boat disappears.

With that, I'd think you'd have a case for a warranty replacement. I wonder if sometimes they could get splashed enough while on plane to keep them cool enough normally, but maybe some boats they are not splashed at all on plane and it causes them to overheat. Perhaps a little clip fastened to a trim tab could direct a spray to the light to cool it if you really wanted to run it while on plane?

the marketing pics for my boat show about a half a dozen of scantily clad young ladies strewn all about it. Damned if I can find them though. False advertising!
