I also have two. One is the auto sensing Rule 500, and have replaced it under warranty 3 times in 6 years. Each one,the shaft to the impeller corroded and broke off. So far I have not had to buy one so I have not changed the set up. My second pump is a rule 1500 or 2000 (I forget which one I bought) it is on a float switch and a dash switch. Both are wired directly to the port battery not through the switch. Other than testing, my rear pump has never come on.

The auto pump in theory is good, but It will drain the battery if left hooked up for a long period of time. even if there is no water. It comes on every few minutes and foes off if there is no resistance. I figured this out the hard way after leaving the boat stored and covered for about 5 months.

That is the BEST float switch you can get.

I have a 1500gph main pump, a second 2000gph backup with float switch 5" above main so both won't cycle all the time. Also have 3rd float switch on upper level wired to a high water alarm if second pump kicks on. This on my 25' just as I had on my 21' before.

that's a first class setup. I doubt there is a better switch. But, why do you think rule is so much better than say Atwood, or another brand???

I paid $1100 but I am in Boston and everything is expensive here. Access was a bitch and I wanted it done. Then they installed a much smaller pump and smaller diameter hose. Didnít even match what was on the boat.

At at the end of the day I would definitely have a back up pump.

Iíve had great luck with Rule pumps, their float switches and auto pumps not so much. The ultra switches are as close to bombproof as you can get. They come with extra long leads and heat shrink crimps. Keep the electrical connections sealed, high and dry. Keep the pump clear of debris, and youíre most of the way there.
