Smile Key West Help?

Hi, everybody, I'm thinking of buying a 2003 Key West 1720 Sportsman. This is the bilge area, what is this pipe made out of? Does this look like I should stay away from it? I really appreciate this forum and all the help I receive! Thanks to all for your kindness!

This pipe that comes from the bow of the boat, whats it made from does this look like it's on its last legs?

Generally they are just pvc pipes used for drainage of other compartments.

Looks like black spa flex, if it's not under constant high pressure, it's good. It's also can be glued like PVC.

I am speaking from Sprinkler experience, no idea for boating applications.

I own a 2002 1720 Sportsman ( purchased New) That pipe is PVC & Anchor Locker & other items drain into the bilge through there,However That rusty looking pipe I don't believe is Factory & I don't recall it being there on Mine if I get a chance I will go take a peak.

There are 4 pvc dirty tubes in that pix. Live well drain, live well pump, bilge pump and forward drain.

dish soap if you’re trying to remove wax before a compound and wax job. Otherwise stick to a good boat soap like Orpine wash. Simple green will strip the wax

Took a look @ Mine it’s pretty much exactly the same as in Your Picture The Tube (about1” Diameter) That comes from the Front drains The Front Storage & Anchor Locker into the Bilge Mine appears to be black Rubber Hose

Key West has an active forum. The factory manager is a frequent visitor and has answered a number of my questions directly. He has a number of sticky'd threads that answer common questions regarding how your KW works.

Post some photos of rest of the boat. The pipe is just a drain from aft storage compartment. Clearly the bilge will need serious cleaning and probably new pump & switch for peace of mind.

Here it is! What do you guys think for a first boat? Priced at $10,000.00 ? Owner says it has never seen salt water.

Poorly maintained, looks like a cheap trailer, guy never cleaned hatches, bilge etc, gives you an idea on how he cared for the rest of the boat, move on. No caulk between motor and transom, only thing good about that boat is the Bulldawg sticker. owner says it never seen a cleaning either.

I think a lot of the dirtiness of the bilge can likely be attributed to the oil tank. Looks decent IMO. Price isn't horribly out of line, but I would definitely negotiate it down to the extent possible.

Yes, the Bilge and EVERY other compartment, especially the one where the wire is getting crunched by the inspection hatch.

I believe that's the seal for the hatch.

I’ve got a KW1720 that has never seen fresh water -only salt water.

Mine isn't as clean as that boat but mine needs a little TLC.

I bought mine new in 2002 and have used the heck out of it. Mine has a two stroke Yamaha on the back. Runs like a champ.

I mostly marsh fish in it and it has served me well.

The 90 will push the boat about 31 mph if you’re loaded. Takes a second to get up on plane. Not the greatest waterski boat but great for pulling tubers.

Ive been happy with my KW. Can’t comment on the price but that looks like a fairly well kept boat.

The boat is 16 years old. It’s not going to be perfect. I had a 2003 key west and the boat was built great. The bilge looks that way from the oil tank. Nearly impossible to avoid. A little cleaning of the compartments and a buff and wax job, and that’s a great first boat. I would try to negotiate the price a bit for sure.
