Dock-to-dock I wear a Type-V inflatable with a PLB attached when solo. On the boat I keep the kill switch attached as much as possible. But when fishing it has to come off often. In my low-freeboard Scout I've almost gone over several times when trolling. It's usually at night, in a following sea.

When with others they're stowed and the Type-V is clipped to the console rail. The kids wear theirs dock-to-dock except at anchor, when swimming.

FYI - I think not wearing a PFD in freshwater is nuts. Freshwater is drowning water.

I wear one - and require all onboard to do so - when it gets nasty. Simply cruising or at our mooring, no.

Adult wear rates are about 10% nationally. I suspect many of our members here just don't want to ring in with a no. It took inflatable belt packs to get me to wear one on a regular basis. I wore a type 3 over body armor for most of my career, so when I was out on my personal boat I wanted to feel the wind across my body. When the belt packs first came out, I bought one. They are very easy to wear. Of course they provide the least amount of protection, but they reduce the risk to an acceptable level for me. I have better PFDs and a ditch kit within arms reach.

be safe out there.
Always - it is just too easy to slip, hit you head and fall over, even around the dock. I have the Mustang auto infiltrator type. I also require all children and ask the adults to wear.

Inflatable when solo or with the kids, and kill switch attached. My one year old loves the boat. Doesn't have good language yet, so his indication he wants to go out on the boat is to go gather up all the life jackets and bring them to me and his big sister. Then point at the boat.

In larger groups with multiple competent people on board, not typically, unless the kids are with me. More so as an example than anything else. If I'm wearing mine, I get zero push back from them about wearing theirs.

I'm usually in a 3m open cell wet suit which makes me float like a bobber without a weight belt so generally, no.

Most of the time when my family is on the boat, along with another adult. I always have one on when alone and when I am the only adult on the boat. Mustang inflatable.
