Default Yamaha suddenly shut off 40mph

Everything fine cruising along middle of the channel and WHAM was like I hit a sandbar engine just completely shut off.
Started back up and got 1200ft before it died again and would not start.

Bad gas? Water in fuel?

Motor 2018 Yamaha 90 with YES. Going to shop tomorrow going to try to claim lemon on the motor

Other than your last post, please state where it had been in the shop for 45 days previously?
You posted as it was a first time event.
In either case, has anyone on this site heard of anyone getting a new motor under the "Lemon Law"?

I didn't think Florida lemon laws applied to boats or boat engines

I thought this was a joke. How are we supposed to know you've been having a bunch of trouble out of this brand new outboard? After reading your entire post, the last sentence makes you look like an idiot.... just saying.

Have you had this exact same problem multiple times?

The second time it shut off and it wouldn't start back up..... did the motor turn over and just not fire up or was it like there was no power to the motor (starter didn't engage)?

Year old motor just ups and dies. Without knowing what is wrong with it, what is the basis for you trying to claim lemon on the motor?

You mention bad gas. You mention water in fuel. What in the world do either of those events have to do with a motor being a lemon?

If one has a lemon, or lemons, it has been suggested that one make lemonade.

By the way, what does the YES contract have to do with anything?

Oh, an outboard motor is a recreational product. It is not a motor vehicle. The FLA lemon law covers motor vehicles only. I would suggest that you pay the esteemed firm of Dewey, Cheatum and How a non-refundable retainer to file suit for a new motor. Lawyers gotta eat also. And the upkeep on a jet aircraft is not cheap.

God I love this place.

All I know is that a lot of lemons come out of the state of florida.

What about the "orange" phenomenon? Orange you glad you bought a Yamaha?

I suspect that the problem is operator induced.

Shoulda bought a Suzuki. With a Gimme Six contract.

Lemon thing is a bit strange. Quick search back shows the OP has had a few issues with his new engine on his repowered boat, but none of them are actually engine problems. Bad existing wiring, bad transducer placement are the last couple. Op is apparently new to boating so he is learning some of the hard lessons. Be interesting to hear if the latest issue is an engine issue or something external. Hopefully he will post back and his luck has improved.

I think it is a bit early to panic. See what the shop says. You nor any of us have enough information to claim anything.

People relax

the brand new motor with 40 hours on it spent 50+ days at Waylon bay marine. Waiting on a new wiring harness because the oem one was telling the motor itís running cooler than it is which fouled out my spark plugs. All this on a new engine.

i hit absolutely nothing. The motor shut off it was able to start and go 200 feet before it shut off again. I drifted into a marina and tied up.
Waited 15min it started and seemed fine so I headed back towards the dock. Got maybe quarter mile before it died again and would not start back.
