Default Price Check - Rear Sun Shade

I am looking to get a rear sun shade made for my 28 Albin and have received two quotes that are quite far apart. Both quotes are for a track rail attached to the pilothouse roof, sunbrella fabric and two rear support poles that will insert into the aft rodholders for support. This is not meant to be used underway and am not looking for fixed mount supports. One quote was for $950, one for $1,990. Does anyone have any insight into prices? The high one seems like the "I don't want the work but if you'll pay that much I'll certainly do it"!

Thanks!

Call around to different upholstery shops to make one . Look up sail shade and see if they have a size close to what your looking for then have a shop modify it if needed ,then order some extension poles and tie it down . A square tarp and 2 poles for $1000 -$2000 ? I’m in the wrong business

Im looking into having one made as well

the shade seems to be consistently about $500 and there are several different types of poles Ive found

basic stainless fixed poles can be had for $500

adjusting poles with self self locking tabs are $1500 but you can raise or lower the height on each corner to account for differing sun positions

then they have fancy carbon fiber adjustable poles that are much lighter and easier to manage for $2500

so my question would be: are both quotes for the same poles?

I just bought one of these and they seem nicely built for the cost.

i dont understand, you got quotes, pick one, or get a third, and make a decision

you can also try non-marine upholstery shops or make your own

This was made for less than $150...

Yeah the fabric has gotten droopy, but it is easy to open up and does a damn fine job of giving the cocpit some well needed shade in the heat of our summers...

The side supports are paint poles that you twist a collar on and slide out. They are ty wrapped to the frame using heavy 3/8" ty wraps.

That is truly awesome! Great Idea! Might have to steal it if I ever get a motor for my Seacraft LOL

Wow that is actually a reasonable price. It doesn't cost much to make, but most places wants $1k or more.

At the end of the day its just a strip of sunbrella fabric being held down by a couple poles in rod holders. A couple SS grommets and clamps...thats it.

Usually I recommend a local upholstery shop, but if these guys have this ready to go, looks like an excellent option.

OceanSouth does nice work, I am using their engine covers designed to be used while running (buckle clip install, felt lined inside, mesh over air intake)
