Default Trim Tabs on a 31 Bertram?

I'm about 2 months from launching my 31 Bertram and I'm thinking about adding trim tabs. The boat has never had them. Anyone with any experience with tabs on a 31?

Years ago my slip neighbor had a 31 with tabs. Why would you not consider them on that size boat?

Good buddy runs a 31 with tabs. Last year he lost his tabs for a few trips due to hydraulic pump issues. All I know is, he said it was a nightmare running the boat without tabs. As Kennyboy said, they should be a must.

Iíve never been on a boat that has the right trim for every speed and every condition and every load. Thereís no way I would run that boat without them.

Iíve only got about 30 minutes behind the wheel of a b31 and yes you need them. Any boat bigger than 18ft will benefit from them unless you only run them in flat water.

I have been running a 31 Bertram for over 30 years with no tabs---never a problem-----I would recommend not having unless you have some specific loading issues-----I can never remember a day where I felt I needed to get the bow down---the boat runs very level without them.

What kind of tabs are you looking to add?

I don't know. This is a project boat that was passed along to me. I have all of maybe 15 minutes riding in a 31 Bertram. Like some of the comments here, I've never owned an ocean going boat without tabs so this boat without them seemed kind of strange to me which is why I asked. The good folks on 31Bertram.com have pretty much been consistent in that these boats rarely need trim tabs. The general consensus was to run the boat and see if I needed them.

If I don't add them then I'm going to have to work to keep the boat balanced with items such as live wells, fish boxes etc. I hate riding in an off balanced boat. But we'll see.

I appreciate the responses.

Iíve seen several mentions between tht and b31.com about riding level. I donít think thatís the issue. It may ride level but the way I usually use tabs is to keep the bow down and in contact in a head sea and up in a following sea. Load leveling is just an added bonus.
