Default Sea Fox vs Key West HELP

Looking for used center console for Cali pacific offshore fishing (live bait). Found a couple options close in many ways including price:

2005 Key West 2300 SS - Good condition
2005 Yamaha 225 400 hours - exhaust kit done
Trailer is rough needs a lot of work or replaced
Simrad bottom machine, bait tank
Boat is local - no shipping costs

2004 Sea Fox 2300 CC - Excellent condition
2003 Mercury (Yamaha) 225 700 hours - corrosion unknown
Trailer is in excellent condition
Lowrance Hook machine, needs bait tank
Boat not local - $2000 uShip

Looking for thoughts based on this general info?

Thanks in advance!

I had a 2004 Sea Fox 210CC. It was a decent enough boat, but not a smooth ride. She was very light, and had a somewhat shallow deadrise. You'd really take a pounding in any chop or when hitting someone else's wake. Of course the 2300 is going to be heavier and I presume a better ride.

Pay attention to the stringers in it, mine were starting to come up.

Key West....not even close. Better boat plus lower engine hours and no shipping. You can get a new trailer for the shipping cost on the Sea Fox.

from that era? Key west all the way. Some quality issues from early sea fox boats, I think they’ve worked through them and their new boats are solid. . I have a 2003 key west 2220 and a 2016 key west 244cc. Been nothing but solid boats with good build quality.

this. Even with the new sea fox boats being solid, their resale value still reflects this history. Key West is always fairly predictable in that regard.

Comparing a Sea Fox to a Key West is like comparing a Cobia or Sea Hunt to an Everglades.
Totally different leagues.

Bayliner & Sea Fox are your most basic entry level boats. Nothing wrong with that at all. In fact they sell a ton and have been in business a long time.
Key West is a notch up. One of the better production boats you will own. Good overall rides on most of their models as well. Construction is just better on a Key West than a Sea Fox.
You can find an 04-06 Key West 23' CC with a 250 right around 30k if you look hard enough. It's a good boat.
Use it for a few years then sell it and upgrade to an Everglades 230/235CC someday (The best family / fishing oriented 23 CC on the market)!

Default Maycraft

Would a 2007 or 2008 25’ Maycraft be in the KW realm quality wise?

We owned a WA version of the 2300 KW Bluewater hull....and it proved to be a great boat for us for years. We are now on our third KeyWest, and have nothing but good things to say about the boats and the company..

Their owners forum is great...and Tom Marlowe, the plant manager, will chime in on some posts..

From what I've heard/read, the pre-2007 Sea Fox had some quality issues. Post 2007, Sea Fox stepped up their game and started making a much better boat. I like the look of a Sea Fox over the Key West, but given the choice of those 2...probably go with the KW.

Search quality of Sea Fox before 2007, see if you can find anything.

no. Maycraft boats are more of a bare bones fishing boat like a Parker, typically seen in bay and sound areas. They have a different Hull shape. They are good boat, but you will typically sacrifice so creature comforts and ride quality depending on the model you are looking at. When stepping up to a 25’ boat, you may gain some ride quality back though. I’ve knly been on 23’ and under maycraft center consoles.

I'd worry about the F225 than what boat and not simply from the corrosion issue. The F225 was a weak engine.

But asafar as the boats go I had a 2007 KW 2300 WA. For starters it's not a true 23' boat as they use the pulpit. More like 21' something and it's not a true 8'6" beam as there is only 1 small area near the middle that was 8'6". At the transom it was 8'. Solid boat but didn't handle waves very well and wasn't good on the drift.
