Hello,

I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on a yellowfin 17 and how they perform. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I ran one for about 7 years. Solid, but I would look elsewhere if I were buying a new flats boat. If you have a good deal on a used one, no reason not to bite. My 3 main complaints:

1) It required significant use of tabs to run flat...no big deal and lots of skiffs ride bow high and porpoise without using tabs a lot, but I found it annoying, and I think other skiffs have less of this issue;

2) I had an F90 on mine (maybe I should have gone with a lighter motor to address issue #1) and WOT was barely 40...more like high 30s...again, fine, but feels like a boat of that weight with a 90hp motor should be able run well into the 40s.

3) Stern sits very low in the water -- again maybe lighter motor would make a difference, but I have a feeling it's the nature of the skiff. I only weight 160# and ran it solo often so whatever weight would have been shed by smaller motor, would be made up for by a heavier captain/crew in most situations.

To be clear, I got a lot of good use out of her, and I had zero structural issues. It's a well laid out skiff, and I found her very easy to pole. It's just with all the choices today in high end skiffs, I think there are better choices from manufacturers more specifically focused on this category. But if you're asking b/c you have a good deal on a used one, go for it. You may even be looking at mine since I traded it recently

Beautiful boat. 17 ft is very small and for the money I think I would take a larger lesser brand.
