Mom and Dad at his homemade 14 ft plywood boat that he and my future wife's uncle build in a cabinet shop from a blueprint they found in a magazine in 1957. 35 HP Big Twin Evinrude, I learned to water ski behind it.

From about 1991 and running back to the scales during a tournament. Knowing dad, he probably had it on the pins as he loved his Intrepid. One day I will have one in his memory.

These are a few of my dads boats growing up as a kid.

We flew RC planes too.

18' ?
24' Owens
31' Ulrichsen
31' Concord with a flybridge (not pictured) my favorite!
34' double cabin Pacemaker

Dad broke his hip and never was able to boat again, this was hard for him to take

.

That's my Dad at the helm of a very large ketch in the Whitsundays in the 1950's

Halvorsen's on the Hawkesbury in the mid 50's

That's me. Somewhere close to Townsville North Queensland and that motor was the biggest available at the time and brand new.

As a teenager and into my 20's I had this 1954 OldTown runabout. 13 1/2 feet with a 1964 25 hp Gale outboard. Did a lot of water skiing behind her, fun little boat.

Me at age 14 in my first real power boat over 3hp. I bought the fiberglass hull and deck for $15 from a local boat factory that had failed. It needed a lot of finishing to make it usable.

Photo 1:I borrowed my dad's 40 hp Mercury for a week while we tried it out. Wasn't really too fast because the motor was propped for pulling multiple water skiers. Notice the state-of-the-art vessels and vehicles in the background.

Photo 2: With my 35 hp Johnson, which I bought used for $75 at a Montgomery Wards parking lot sale. They actually sold used boats there.

All of those pictures of young kids fishing bring a lot of memories to me. At that age, a 1 ounce fish was, in my young mind, a 60# grouper. My father had a 13' Boston Whaler that we pulled with a Volkswagen beetle...

Thanks for the pictures. Hopefully they will be kept here forever.

I remember growing up in the 60's and 70's and my grandparents having a blue fiberglass boat with a Mercruiser I/O engine. It was a small cruiser - maybe 20 feet in length. So, many memories from those days. We fished, water skied, and had the best family time one could imagine. I wish I still had pictures of the boat and my family to share. Thank you for sharing the pictures above as I'm sure that all of you had great memories from your younger days.
