This is one of the birds that lives across the creek from me. Over the weekend I saw they have a baby in the nest. Amazing how it's full grown and I'm just now noticing it.

^^ Beautiful adult bird sitting on a very cool looking old and dying cedar? tree with the bark peeling off it.

Like the bald eagles he didn't think much of dog food and leftover Chinese takeout either.

That's a VERY young bird. Almost looks like it just fledged out of the nest, but might be a bit too early for that. Possibly a 2nd year bird. Nice.

That robin is leucistic, not albino.

Still pretty rare.

Today was the newborn's first flight (I think). I wasn't able to get any good pictures. It was blowing 30 and the birds spent most of the day circling 500' up.

Pretty heavy crop but here's a shot from the kayak this morning. Blue heron on oyster cages.

Nice. What camera and lens combo are you usually running?

2nd or 3rd year bird. You can tell just by the 10th primary feathers still coming in on each wing. It's completing its first or second molt. Plus all that white, mottled look. These kinds of pics get us raptor identifying types all excited because of all those clues. Plus that very odd, long, lonely and protruding secondary on the bird's right wing. Hard to tell if that's the last remaining secondary feather, or just one that is stuck in that strange position. That's a really great picture because of those little details like that which go unnoticed for the most part.

And the fact that's an amazing pic taken in such winds and height.

Thanks for the clarification. There were actually 2 young birds close by when I took that pic. The parents were in the trees and one of them was calling as the young ones flew by. I assumed one of those young birds was their offspring from this year. Took pics of both but that one was better. The young one from the nest just started flying recently.

These were taken a few years ago but same time of year (5/20/15).

I came home from work one day and saw the cat face to face with this ball of fur in the backyard. As I got closer I realized it was a young screech owl. I got the cat inside and got the camera. As I walked up to the young owl its mother came out from above and dive bombed me. I had to duck to get out of the way. She stayed close by and watched as I took pictures. I'm guessing they were out for the first flight and just took a break in my yard.
