Default We are back at it

School has started back .Safety lessons behind us and back in full swing.
I just cant bring myself to sell the Carlson. A lot of memories and blood sweat and tears.
My students and I are going to start fishing it next week.

I have advanced degrees and still rely on and use what I learned in wood shop and metal shop. It is a shame these valuable skills aren't taught to a greater number. Good on you!

Good for you, Tony. I had sort of figured that after so much work going into the Carlson you would have a change of mind about selling her instead of fishing her with the guys as was the original intent. I have found that over the years that a smaller group on a flats boat gets at least as much, if not more, out of a trip as being on a larger boat with more people. AND the trips are much easier on the body as well as the billfold.

I haven't gotten serious about selling my Carlson yet. With my lung issues and other health issues, the heat and humidity keep me in a lot although I did run her on the hose a couple of days ago. Guess when it cools down and the humidity slacks off a bit, I'll run an ad and see what it produces.

If you PM here on THT , drop me a message and i'll get back with you. Got a couple of questions I want to ask you.

Good Luck with the new school year. Will be a big task to outdo last year's project you did with your Carlson but I'M betting you will do it.

Thank for sharing your rebuilt on your Carlson Back Bay Skiff!!!!!

Capt Joe

I may have posted this about this thread some time back, but each time I come back to it, I realize how much of an inspiration this has been. Great job! You should be proud of your students and of yourself.

My grandpaw was an ag professor on the university level for 40+ years. My dad taught ag at my local high school for 30+ years. Now my brother is teaching ag in the same classroom as my dad. We didn't have as nice of a shop as your but we had many of the same lesson plans as what you're teaching. The boat I just rebuild was done mostly in the shop at the high school. We also had a green house and a meat center to do stuff in. Me and both of my brothers were in ag and FFA/ 4-H from about 5th grade till graduation. People like you and my brother and father are who keep our communities growing and improving. Thank you. I wasn't cut out for the teaching industry and instead went into the oil industry.

It's great to mentor kids and teach them the things that fathers should be doing in the first place. Great Job!

It is great to see these young men being taught how to work with their hands, using tools, and solving problems. They also look like they are thoroughly enjoying the experience
Keep up the good work!

Default Time of year

You can guess the time of year it is because of all the four wheelers in the shop

Great job on teaching these kids how to use their hands, and that there's nothing wrong with getting dirty.
I did 3yrs of Machine Shop at Davidson High back in the 70s. We had great teacher and I couldn't wait to get to class everyday.
A lot of good folks in the Grand Bay and Bayou area,I lived there for 25yrs.

Back when I went to HS I took Woodworking, Welding and Small Engine class. Some of the best times. I still use what I learned from those classes. I still have the some of the items i have made also. Anchor and a Clock.
Keep at it young men, congrats to the teacher!
