Default I got the Axe today !

30+ years in the QA/QC field and out of the blue I got laid off! They say they are worried that sales will slow down in the near future and wanted to prepare. Anyway it was a nice ride with many good people and I'm now gearing up for a possible career change.

Sorry for the bad news man. I have no idea how you could parlay the photo stuf into a money making venture but you sure have an eye for great shots.
I wish you the best.

BTW- what was the line of work (that you did the QA/QC in)?

Thanks ALL for the nice comments. I do have a DVD that still needs tweaking and many shop owners in town want to carry it and my "stuff". It's just the how's I gotta figure out.

This is what the DVD will look like but with a different soundtrack. The music will be more powerful classical in nature and will have well over 100 images from beaches to marshes to rocky shore with just about every type of vessel thrown in,Who knows, maybe a THT'r or two:

That Sux Jay... Sorry to read this. What a huge swath this economy is cutting. I've been there before and it was always the best thing to happen in retrospect, but stinks during the transisition.

Keep moving forard. Oh, thanks for all the pics. They are great.

Sorry to hear that, Jay. Sadly, there is a lot of that going around. Depending on your industry, I may have some contacts. Us North Shore guys need to stick together.

25 years with the company and they decided to "let me pursue other interests"...best damn thing that ever happened...why? Because now things have worked out where I stay home with the kids and it's not as bad as some would think - i get to take my kids to school everyday and pick them up and stuff and watch them grow up.

Things happen for a reason - hang in there, Bro...

Jay,

So sorry to hear that - I actually got a real "sick" feeling in my stomach from having to read it.

You've been around "here" so long and have contributed so MUCH to this Forum, I feel like I personally know you!

I've been "there" before - more than once - and it's no fun. Once, right after I bought my new boat, and again, right after I bought my Jeep!

Make the best of it - looks like you already have some leads on a new career - and take CARE of yourself! It's easy to get down about the situation, but it presents a new opportunity for you!

Keep us informed, in your own time, and we ALL wish you the best in your next venture!

You LOVE that "town", and folks around there will remember that, and help you in your search!

Best regards,

Sorry to hear the bad news...or who knows, it may be the best thing that ever happened to you. You may look back in 5 years and say, "I can't believe I stayed in my old job so long!" Easy to say sitting here, but I wish you the best of luck.

Jay, don't stress it to much. I get laid off almost every winter, once the ground freezes, construction will suddenly stop. Email me about unemployment training grants or go to a nearby career work center, if you really want to be re trained they will help. Also don't file a claim on the phone, go to the CWC office and file its a lot easier. Also now is the time to get on cheap projects to finish. Also a quick way to calculate what you will get pretax for unemployment is take your gross pay over 52 weeks and / by 2, this is what you will likely get pretax., with a max of 620+/-

Jay, sorry to hear about the news.. I think I can say that we all feel for you, and wish you the best. Have you looked into the local rags for a photog. spot to fill in some part time hours or freelance work?? In addition, the springtime might be an opportunity to do some photo layouts for boat owners looking to sell boats (Running shots, stills on the water in a nice area, etc. ) or just have a nice photo taken.. Also, any plans for selling prints or making calendars, etc. from your past work?

Best Regards,

Ryan
