That is tough news . . . after 30 years in the same job it must have been a totally unexpected surprise

I feel bad for you . . . but knowing the kind of guy you are, that after that queezy feeling in your stomach goes away, that you will bounce back and get into something you love doing

I have gone through a number of career changes and evolution . . . been through the uncertainties you feel . . . if you feel like talking PM me your phone number and I will call

Your buddy Auggie

Actually "augie" it would have been 11 years next month at this company but I've always been in the quality field. It was a very physical/high pressure job, I've been lucky as far as injuries goes other than a sore back & shoulder and a few ripped fingernails. What hurts is it was 10 minutes from my home! My truck I bought new in March of "04" only has 18k miles on it!

Thanks! I've already had a few photo op prospects inquire and I applied for an arts grant that I was directed to. In the meantime I'm buried under a family project to produce a slide show for my father-in-law's 80th birthday for Sunday. I've been scanning hundreds of snap shots thru the years. This is a pain in the buttzki !

Jay, I was in your shoes a few monts ago, it's a little stressful. Use the time to get the things done you never have time for. Don't sit around to much, and keep looking. Something will turn up!!
I took a little less money than I was making at the last job, but now I'm with a small growing company, instead of a large shrinking one!!!! And I actually like my job now!!! Good Luck.

Dave

Sorry to hear this! Happening alot these days, 2.9m lost jobs in 2008 I work for Diamler Trucks North America, will have 30 years in April. 2000 more will be layed off starting March 13th. 2 plants closing. No big rigs to build in the USA.

Check this site: www.profitwithfortune.com This is our side business and is doing quite well. Interesting fact is, everyone is doing this business, just not getting the monies for it. Fortune will put any individual in the middle like a Wal-Mart store, but not in the selling business!! Fortune is AAA1 rated with Dun and Brad Street, Solid and debt free. Our business is increased 58% last year due to people finding the new way companies are doing business and wanting to take charge of thier future and time. If your interested of want more infomation, e-mail us free95@bellsouth.net. This might be the road to a residual income business that allow free time to take some more great photos.

Jay,
I don't know you but sorry for your problem. I enjoy your photo's, you have a keen eye and a talent. FWIW it's worth, my brother - law freelances with a $4-5K setup and has done alot of shots ( and sold them via his website to the parents and friends ) with his kids lacrosse and soccer tournaments right thru the high school level. He has started a business and has made a nice buck as a side business. He wishes he could do it full-time. He got $700. from a client for a 8 x 11 of a waterfront home with the moon in the background. My point is you are good at it, get a business plan and go for it. Best of luck.

Jay - I wish you the best of luck.

Just a thought. If I remember correctly, your photo of the FV Black Sheep was used on the cover of a book, correct? Contact that publisher. Maybe they will do a project book with you along the lines of a "Photo Journal on the Heritage of Gloucester" A nice photo "coffee table" book could be in your future and you already have the photos.
