It seems they left off a few features that the Spark had. I guess some could be added later with a software update.

I wonder how stable it will be in any sort of wind.

Also, some features (like obstacle avoidance) requires additional hardware that cannot be easily retrofitted.

It seems that the primary design goal was to keep the weight under 250g so that you don't have to register with the guv'mint. But that doesn't mean you can fly this unit wherever you want to.

Exactly correct on the weight, lots of people think you can fly it anywhere which is not true. Stable in the wind???? The smaller they are the less stable they are. I've been impressed with my MP2, I had it flying in 20-25mph the other day and it was very stable and held position well

You seem pretty drone savvy.

I have had an Inspire1 almost since they came out and have a lot of hours on it but have not kept up with the technology. The specs on this little machine look great.

My big complaint, really only complaint with my Inspire1 is the HUGE size of the carry case and extensive time and space required to get it flight ready. I rarely take it on the boat because of this. The mini solves both issues.

This little machine seems to do everything I need except auto follow does not seem to be a capability listed in the DJI specs.
Am I reading this correctly as no auto follow?

If so are you aware of apps/software etc that will give the minimav this capability?

T.I.A.

Your correct it doesn't have camera based follow more or multi-frame panorama mode. I believe their thinking was its so small it might be pushed around by the wind too much. Sounds like you need a Mavic or Mavic Pro. They are larger and pretty dam solid. I've had my M2P out in winds 20-25mph and it has been pretty stable. With that said flying when it windy will shorten your battery life just because its using more power to try to keep steady. I also had the Inspire 1, it was a great drone.....and yes it was Huge. To big for what I needed it for. I sold it got a Phantom 3 Pro, now I'm on Mavic #2 Lol

Sorry I don't know if any apps what would help. Personally I think you would be disappointed coming from an inspire. Thats why I mentioned the Mavic or Mavic Pro

I fly an Inspire 1 as a very very very small part of my job. I also have a Phantom 4 pro for personal use. There is a big difference in stability between the two of them. Phantom isn't bad but it is noticeable. Inspire is just generally smoother. I would imagine the mini would a big difference as well.

If the mini was out now, i probably would have purchased it for a trip I am taking soon. the portability and the low cost would be the biggest positives.

No doubt the Inspire1 is a very sold platform. I have flown mine in some very windy conditions and it has handled it remarkably well. Just such a space consuming production to prepare it for flight and even with the good size of my Parker 2520’s cockpit still a PITA to get back aboard....
