If you just want to run a basic map that sort of look like a glorified cartoon, it probably will be no problem as those maps have little detail to begin with. The Navico units come with maps like this loaded on. Im not sure why they have them since they are pretty much useless. If the maps are important to you and you want to see details, you will need to buy a map to load into it. If you do that and get a mapping chip you will have to view every layer and every feature they provide on the map as you can't go in with unit's software to select what you want to see and what you don't. For instance, manatee zones are always going to be turned on overlaying photos and map features no matter your preference. The same goes for every other map layer from depth indications to contours to markers to state parks, map labels, to roads etc etc. If you get this cheap unit and you want to buy a good map after the fact, you will not be very happy looking at it as its going to look like a cluttered mess and especially with the tiny screen.
