I dunno. I also don't know why there isn't a standardized, single free national database for all the chips vs all these various ones. Not like the ASPCA or animal control agencies couldn't do this. Probably cost the animal control agencies less to give the service away vs housing and euthanizing pets they can't find owners for.

They're also less reliable than you might think. Microchips can and do fail fairly regularly, or the vet or whomever is scanning doesn't have the right equipment for that particular brand so it doesn't show up.

Further, many places that require a pet be microchipped don't actually require that you are a service subscriber.

The system is a cluster.
