We are not falling behind because our kids need to do 20 hours of schooling, we are falling behind because schools need to pass every kid so they don't lose their funding. I have seen it first hand with a relative of mine, his senior year he missed most of the year in trouble, at the end they had him do a couple of weeks of makeup work and passed him, no way he should have been passed. But there was no way they were going to fail him.

Most of the homework I see with my kids is busy work, not stuff where they are really learning other then math.
