I recommend Capt. Rick's out of Puerto Aventuras. They have a fleet of mid-sized boats ( several Bertram 31s) and have been in the business for many years. I have fished with them several times since 2003, both by myself and when I took a large group of customers down there for a meeting.

I can't help with what is in season in August, but Sailfish seems to be available most of of the year.

The great thing down there is that you will start trolling 500 yards from the marina! I am used to suffering through 70 NM runs to the fishing grounds and couldn't believe how lucky these guys are in that respect.

Puerto Aventuras is also a nice resort to explore on foot in case , say, your wife is there with you but does not want to go fishing. There are open air dolphin and manatee pools, shops and restaurants. Safe place, as well. It is within easy driving distance from Playa Del Carmen and Akumal.

Enjoy!
