He always swore by Penn International 965's and 975's. You can get them both with level winds. He also loved the Avet SX.
He used up to 16 ounce sinkers with these reels with no problems. 6 or 8 ounces were more normally used, but sometimes current and depth down around the old A anchorage buoy called for more weight.

I see you are in Dewey. We had a house on Slaughter Beach in Milford. Do they still catch the drum at the Oyster Beds off Slaughter beach. Man I miss that fishery. What a blast that was.
Yup. This spring a few in the 65-75 lb were caught up that way.
