No the transducer that can come with the 1040 xs is not chirp. It is down-vue, which despite what some publications call chirp, is not true chirp. Can do side vue with GCV10. And pulse. Manufacturer's are blurring the meaning between pulse and chirp to the point it is difficult to tell difference.

The difference between 820 and 840 I believe is the maps it comes with. 840 has coastal or lake maps built in.
