I would not use a Garmin on a larger boat. A unit with a rate gyro will steer much better at slower speeds.

My experience is a Garmin on my current 31' CC, a simrad on a 42' Post, and a Furuno on a 45' sailboat. The Furuno was not fancy but has the best steering performance hands down-particularly in quartering seas. The Simrad is 13 years old (so no rate gyro) and has never had a failure-damn reliable. The Garmin is the obvious choice for a high speed CC, but there are a number of things about the design I do not like for larger boats.
