When I added the backing plates for my swivel rod holders I went to the machine shop and had them cut me 1/4 metal backing plates instead of using the small metal plates that came with the swivel holders. The ones that went in the bow were 8 inch diameter circles and 4 x8 for the ones in the gunnels aft. Just thought they took more pressure without digging in to the fiberglass . The ones in the bow really work well for large tuna. Just point and follow or be towed. Just my personal opinion.
