If you are on a budget, the old Penn narrow spool reel like a Penn 149 or 349 is great. They are cheap retrieve ok because of the narrow spool and are well built, since they are often used with wire.Funny, but neither the kite nor the sailfish know how cheap you are!! Not trying to be insulting, I used a Penn 65 to ply my kite for a while, and loved it when I caught fish on my beat up old 20' Seacraft, while the battlewagons full of spiffy crew in matching khakis got skunked right in front of me......
