My 50W's have about 800-900 yds of 100# hollow-core backing with a 300-350yd topshot of Momoi Diamond 80# (breaks around 106 lbs). That setup still gives me plenty of room to add a 25' 250# wind-on for swording.

I think if you turn and chase a big Hoo you're gonna lose them 95% of the time. A split second of reduced tension and one head shake is all it takes. Unless you're trolling without sinkers...then you would probably have a better chance at keeping them hooked up. I wouldn't worry about getting spooled unless you're planning a trip to San Sal, but over there a 50W is useless no matter what you spool it with.
