I bought a 27-ton Troy Built with a Honda 5.5 engine. It's a horizontal/vertical, because my back doesn't want me to lift logs. I picked it up at Lowes ($1300) last year, less a 10% coupon I found online, plus I drive through Delaware regularly, and it also JUST fit in the bed of my Ranger (I had to put some boards under the tires to raise it over the tailgate). The Honda starts on the first or second pull and is very very quiet. It has handled everything we've thrown at it, including 3+' rounds of fresh oak.

I wouldn't get a splitter that didn't tilt into a vertical mode.
